This session will review the current state of the COVID-19 pandemic focusing on national, state and local data, and will describe campus strategies used to manage COVID-19, with a special focus on the role of testing and contact tracing.

Speaker:David M. Souleles, MPH, Director, COVID-19 Response Team, Program in Public Health, Susan and Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences

David joined UCI in August, 2020 to serve as the Director of the UCI COVID-19 Response Team. In this role he provides public health policy advice and guidance to the campus and manages the UCI COVID-19 Contact Tracing Program. Prior to joining UCI he most recently held the Deputy Agency Director of Public Health Services position with the Orange County Health Care Agency (HCA), serving as Public Health Director for the county. In addition, David has held various senior public health positions including an appointment by Governor Gray Davis as Chief Deputy Director for the California Department of Health Services. David earned his bachelors degree in psychology from UCI and holds a masters degree in public health from UCLA.

Director, LGBT Resource Center,UC Riverside

Nancy Jean Tubbs (she/her/hers pronouns) has directed the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Resource Center at UC Riverside since 2000.She holds a Masters degree in Educational Administration from Texas AM University and she has co-authored published articles on allies development and transgender inclusion. As the LGBT Resource Center director, Nancy Jean works with campus partners to provide support, education, and advocacy regarding sexual orientation and gender identity. She is a radical bureaucrat who enjoys improving policies, spending budgets, writing reports, questioning gender, dialoguing sexuality, challenging systems of oppression, and wearing comfortable shoes.
