Professor Stuart Kostalas and team - "Aiming to provide excellent endoscopic services"

A/Prof Kostalas is a medical specialist in both Gastroenterology (the whole gastrointestinal tract and digestive system), Hepatology (the study of the liver) and interventional endoscopy. He and his team at Port Macquarie Gastro provide a complete and comprehensive service to his patients. Port Macquarie Gastro provides all aspects of interventional endoscopy, including ERCP, EUS and ESD. We provide inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) management to over 250 patients, including active involvement of a specialist IBD nurse in care provision.

A/Prof Kostalas is a highly trained, experienced and skilled interventional endoscopist in the Port Macquarie area. He performs high volume, advanced interventional endoscopic procedures in Port Macquarie. He has conjoint committee accreditation in Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy and ERCP. His passion is providing very high quality colonoscopy, particularly the detection of polyps and their endoscopic removal (see QIC for more information). He also has further training in advanced therapeutic endoscopy involving complex neoplastic tissue resection (early cancer removal).

Large colonic polyps and early cancers which previously required operations can often be removed endoscopically. Lesions suitable for this can be assessed by A/Prof Kostalas who performs Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD), a technique which has previously only routinely been offered in Asia.

Patients consulting A/Prof Kostalas have access to modern and advanced diagnostic and therapeutic modalities, including endoscopic and other procedures, along with state-of-the-art knowledge and technologies. A/Prof Kostalas has a close working relationship with other specialists and referring doctors, in order to integrate and optimise patient management.
