Jammu, May 16: Within minutes after former MLA from Sangrama Shoiab Lone resigned from the party, the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) announced its support to Engineer Rashid for the Baramulla Lok Sabha seat.
In a hurriedly convened press conference, the senior leader of the DPAP and former minister Taj Mohi-ud-Din said that their party has decided to support jailed Engineer Rashid after his son Abrar Rashid approached DPAP chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad to seek his support for his father.

Jammu, May 16: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has attached seven immovable properties in Kashmir belonging to a top terrorist of the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), according to an official statement issued on Thursday.
Terrorist Sartaj Ahmed Mantoo’s properties, including land measuring 19 Marlas and 84 Sq ft at Kisarigam in Pulwama district, were attached on Wednesday on the orders of a special NIA court in Jammu, it said. Sartaj was arrested on January 31, 2020, and arms, ammunition and explosives were recovered from his possession.

SRINAGAR, May 16 : Security forces foiled an infiltration bid in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, official sources said on Thursday.
The bid was foiled in the Tangdhar sector of Kupwara last night when the Army deployed along the Line of Control (LOC) noticed the suspected movement of infiltrators. The infiltrators were challenged, and they opened fire, which was retaliated at, triggering an encounter at around 1 am,” sources said.
”The firing has stopped, and a massive search operation is underway in the area. No bodies have been found so far in the area.”

Former NIA director general Dinkar Gupta was recently provided the top ‘Z-plus’ category VIP security cover by the Union government in view of potential threats to him from pro-Khalistan elements, official sources said Thursday.
Gupta, a former Punjab Police DGP, retired from service in April.
A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) VIP security wing has been entrusted with the task to secure the 1987-batch Indian Police Service officer, the sources said.

Senior IPS officers A Y V Krishna and N Venu Gopal have been appointed as additional directors in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Krishna, a 1995-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre, is currently working as Inspector General in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
He has been inducted as the additional director of CBI for a tenure up to August 6, 2028, an order issued by the Personnel Ministry said. Krishna’s batchmate Venu Gopal (Himachal Pradesh cadre) is presently working as joint director in the CBI.

UDHAMPUR, May 16: A fire broke out at a grid station in the Battal Ballian industrial area of Udhampur district on Thursday.
Upon receiving the information, fire tenders were deployed to the site and operations started to douse the blaze.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Prahlad Sharma said, “As soon as we received the information, SHO reached the spot. The efforts to douse the fire are underway. There is oil stock and big transformers are also placed inside the station.”
