Stevenson City is located in Alabama’s Jackson County, a few kilometers from Chattanooga City, Tennessee. Initially, the land where the city is situated belonged to the Cherokees until the settlement began to expand after the railroad was introduced
In the early 1850s, Vernon K. Stevenson and John F. Anderson bought this land area, forming Stevenson City. It was named after the aforementioned landowner.
Today, the city is home to various social amenities, including schools, which comprise the Jackson County School System. There are three main schools: an elementary school, a middle school, and a high school.

Tourist Attraction Sites in Stevenson City
Despite being a small town, Stevenson City has several historic places that act as tourist attraction sites. They include:
Stevenson Depot
The Stevenson Depot closed in 1976 and was converted into a museum six years later. This was necessary to honor Stevenson’s past as a significant shipping hub after the Civil War caused the first depot structure to burn down.
The town holds Stevenson Depot Days in June, along with the railroad celebrations, which also feature a car show and live entertainment.
Fort Harker
Fort Harker is located a quarter mile east of Stevenson City. The Union Army troops originally constructed it in 1862 before further expanding two years later. It had a view of Crow Creek and was close to Stevenson’s strategically located supply depots and storage facilities.
After its construction, no major events occurred here. They only experienced skirmishes and sniper strikes between the Union and Confederate soldiers. The cause of these disagreements was territorial boundaries.
Further, Civil War saw the soldiers construct another large fort, two smaller redoubts, and blockhouses along the railroad lines.
Today, the area is part of the National Register of Historic Places.
Stevenson City Transportation
Apart from railroads, Stevenson City is within proximity to major roads and air transport. There are two major highways: State Highway 117 and US Highway 72. The former highway passes through Stevenson in a northwest-to-southeast direction. On the other hand, the latter runs northeast-southwest.
Two miles to the east of the city is the Stevenson-Bridgeport Municipal Airport. It’s a public airport run and managed by the City of Stevenson.
