Let’s talk about defending your home from the spread of wildfire! 🔥
Did you know that there is one zone on your property that plays the biggest role in protecting your home from wildfire damage? 🏡
The Immediate Zone - includes the home itself and the area 0 to 5 feet from the furthest attached exterior point of the home. When it comes to creating a defensible space, this zone is crucial for implementing measures to reduce the risk of ignition from embers and protect the home from the spread of fire.
Protection measures include: 🔹 Moving any flammable material away from wall exteriors – mulch, flammable plants, leaves and needles, firewood piles – anything that can burn 🔹 Cleaning roofs and gutters of dead leave, debris, and pine needles 🔹 Cleaning debris from exterior attic vents and installing 1/8 inch metal mesh screening to reduce embers.
It’s Teacher Appreciation Week, so It’s only fitting that we shine a spotlight on our two remarkable Public Educators, Courtney and Kristin! ✨
They are the dedicated individuals who tirelessly educate our communities on fire safety, emergency preparedness, and life-saving techniques. With boundless enthusiasm and unwavering commitment, they visit schools, community centers, and public events imparting crucial lessons that can mean the difference between life and death. They teach our children how to "get low and go," the importance of having a family evacuation plan, and that firefighters are community helpers.
Their unwavering dedication to educating and serving their community is unlike any other. Thank you for your commitment to keeping our community safe....

Dust-off 54, providing advanced life support (ALS) services to Ft. Lewis/McChord Air Force base and surrounding fire districts. Dana retired from the Army in 1992 and worked with Sheppard Paramedics until starting his fire service career in 1997 with Central Pierce Fire & Rescue, later promoted to Lt. MSO in 2010. Over the years, he dedicated his time to the HazMat team and served on the WA State Task Force USR as a HazMat specialist, eventually becoming a Medical Specialist in 2015. As part of the task force, Dana deployed for 21 days to the Oso Landslide, as well as, 18 days to both Hurricane Harvey & Urma in 2017.
Dana has a passion for educating. He served as a primary instructor with the Pierce County Paramedic Advanced Airway Management course and taught numerous classes for CPFR and other fire districts. He is an Alumni of the National Fire Academy in Maryland specializing in ALS Support & HazMat operations, and leadership in EMS. “Duty before self” was always his Mantra and upheld that to his fellow brothers and sisters throughout his career.
