Second Road Fatality of 2024: 23-Year-Old Rhyn Bearden

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) can now confirm the death of 23-year-old Rhyn Bearden, Bermuda’s second road fatality of 2024, and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Mr. Bearden died in hospital later Thursday morning, 25th April 2024, after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a truck and a wall around 9am that Thursday.
The fatal collision occurred at the junction of Khyber Pass and Smiths Avenue, Warwick.
A BPS Family Liaison Officer is providing relevant support to Mr. Bearden’s family.
The Roads Policing Unit continues to investigate this road fatality and renews the appeal for any witnesses that have not already come forward, or anyone with any relevant information, to call 247-1788.

Collision on Front Street

Around 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024, police officers attended a multiple vehicle road traffic collision in the area of the number five car park on Front Street in the City of Hamilton.
Reports indicate the 35-year-old female driver of a motorcar entered the number five car park and drove into one of the bays as she attempted to park the vehicle.
She reportedly lost control of the car and struck a number of motorcycles parked in the cycle bay within the car park.
Her vehicle went through a hedge bordering the car park and out onto Front Street.
She struck a number of other bikes parked in the cycle parking bays on the southern side of Front Street, before also striking a truck, which was travelling west along Front Street as well as a motorcar which was parked in a parking bay on the northern side of Front Street.
There were no reported injuries.
Several of the motorcycles struck were left with extensive damage.

Harbour Road Collision

Around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, police were dispatched to a single vehicle damage only collision involving a truck with a trailer attached, on Harbour Road near the junction with Highwood Lane in Paget.
It was reported that the truck was traveling in a westerly direction along Harbour Road when the trailer attached, struck the perimeter wall of a private residence resulting in debris being strewn across the roadway.
There were no reports of any injuries.
The flow of traffic was disrupted for approximately one and a half hours while the debris was cleared and the vehicle removed.

Injured Minibus Driver Treated & Discharged From Hospital

A minibus operator was injured in a single vehicle collision around 11:20am Monday, 29th April 2024 along Middle Road in Warwick, near the junction with Belmont Hills Drive.
The collision left the vehicle involved and a wall damaged. Police, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service as well as ambulance personnel, responded to the scene.
Traffic flow in the area was disrupted for approximately one and a half hours, while the collision site was processed.
It now appears that the minibus was being driven in the westbound lane of Middle Road when it struck the sidewalk and a wall.
The driver, said to be a 65-year-old Warwick man, was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment and later discharged.
A public appeal for witnesses was issued Monday afternoon (29th April 2024).
Firearms Incident Witness Appeal

“Shortly after 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28th, 2024, police received reports of multiple gunshots heard in the Parsons Road, Pembroke, area. Officers immediately responded and were able to confirm a firearm was discharged based on forensic evidence recovered near the junction with Rambling Lane. There was nothing to indicate whether anyone may have been injured and enquiries at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital confirmed that no individuals attended for treatment for gunshot injuries.”
“The apparent increase in firearms incidents in recent times remains a priority for Bermuda Police Service. Every such incident has the potential to claim a life or cause debilitating injury. While our efforts to rid the community of illegal firearms have had some success, clearly, there is still a lot of work to be done. However, that work must involve you the public coming forward and providing any information you may have regarding illegal firearms or persons involved in accessing these weapons.”

RBR Reservist Arrested

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) can confirm the arrest of a Royal Bermuda Regiment (RBR) Reservist, at the L.F. Wade International Airport.
The 47-year-old male was arrested following the discovery of items liable for seizure inside his luggage, upon his return to the island on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
This matter is now under investigation and no further information will be provided at this time.
Attempted Shooting

Police are investigating a confirmed attempted shooting, which took place in the area of Alexandra Road, Devonshire, shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024.
The complainant was seated inside a vehicle at the time.
However, they thankfully escaped without injury.
Police are interested in speaking with anyone who may have seen two persons wearing black clothing, with black helmets leaving Alexandra Road on a black and red motorcycle around the time of the incident.

Second Road Fatality of 2024 [Updated]

Sadly, the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) can confirm that a 23-year-old male motorcyclist involved in a collision with a truck around 9am Thursday, 25th April 2024, was pronounced dead at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital later Thursday morning.
This fatal collision occurred at the junction of Khyber Pass and Smiths Avenue, Warwick.
Police, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service as well as ambulance personnel responded to the scene.
Apparently the truck was being driven down Khyber Pass and the motorcycle was being ridden in the same direction, when the truck made a right turn to enter Smiths Avenue.
The rider struck the truck, then a wall. He was rushed to hospital via ambulance, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The death of the 23-year-old man, who is understood to have been a Pembroke resident, marks Bermuda’s second road fatality of 2024.
Official identification of the deceased is anticipated in due course and a BPS Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to provide relevant support to his loved ones at this difficult time.
The truck driver was not hurt. However, he was transported to hospital as a precaution.
The truck’s passenger was also unhurt.
Traffic in the area was diverted for approximately four hours, while the collision site was processed.
An investigation into the circumstances of this latest road fatality continues and any witnesses are now encouraged to call the Roads Policing Unit on 247-1788 as soon as possible.
