Skiathos Greece

The rustic charm of Skiathos Town.

Skiathos, located in the northern Aegean Sea, is the smallest of the inhabited Sporades islands and is a popular holiday destination for tourists from all over the world, particularly northern Europe.

This most cosmopolitan island has been blessed by nature with some of the best landscapes and beaches in Greece. In fact Skiathos boasts over 70 beaches and inlets that tempt visitors with their golden sands and crystal clear waters of aqua marine.

Most of the towns, villages and resorts of Skiathos are to be found along the south coast, from the island's capital Skiathos Town in the east, through to Koukounaries, with it's 1 kilometer long beach, in the west.

By contrast, the north of the island is devoid of development. Here the landscape is more mountainous and craggy than the south. However, there are some fabulous beaches on the north coast as well as an abandoned town known as Kastro that visitors can explore.

There are plenty of things to see and do in Skiathos, such as visiting one of the many old churches or monasteries or taking a day trip around the island by boat. You could visit the islets that lie just off the coast, explore the walkways and trackways of the island's forested heart or simply laze the day away whilst topping up your tan. Water sports enthusiasts are well catered for, especially along the south coast resorts such as Troulos and Koukounaries.

As Skiathos is the only one of the northern Sporades to have an airport, many people will pass through on their way to the neighbouring islands of Skopelos and Alonnisos. These destinations are also served by the ferries and hydrofoils that call into Skiathos Town.

There is a fantastic range of restaurants and tavernas in all of the towns and villages of Skiathos, with the best selection being available in Skiathos Town.  For those seeking an active night life, Skiathos Town does not disappoint. Here you will find a huge selection of bars, cafes, tavernas, restaurants and night clubs that cater to all tastes.

There is a huge range of accommodation available in Skiathos. A large selection of hotels ranging from 2 to 4 star, appartments, rooms to rent, maisonettes and private villas with pools can all be found. Pre-boking is essential if you are planning to visit in the summer months as the island fills up with tourists. Skiathos even boasts a campsite.

Whilst there are several tour operators offering package holidays to Skaithos, many visitors prefer to source their own holiday components and build a holiday that fits their exact requirements.

Finding the acommodation, car hire and flights to fit in with your budget and schedule is relatively simple to do and can provide you with a tailor made holiday to meet your expectations.
