A fun little craft . . .

Theirs:

Mine:
This was a fun craft that cost me $4.47 for the foam wreath.  Making the little rosebuds was sort of tricky - there is definitely an art to it.  But I am happy with the way it looks and when the season is over, I can just toss it because it is just paper bags and construction paper!

Our Rabbit Yard

Posting these photos of our rabbit yard for my friend Kathy . . . let me know if you have any other questions.

The chicken wire is buried about 6 inches underground all the way around. We had to add the green wire on the top because we found out that Peter Rabbit is a bit of a jumper.  The pickets are about 3 feet tall.  The green wire fencing adds another foot about the highest picket point.

 The gate from the outside.
 The gate from the inside.
The tray is missing from the bottom of this hutch because it is out for cleaning today.  You can see where the tracks are.  We built this hutch to fit an underbed tote.
The bottom of the hutch is a screen so the waste falls through.  But we do have piece of plywood in there so Peter Rabbit is not forced to stand on the screen constantly - that's bad for his feet!

Peter Rabbit loves having more room to run and play.  He especially loves his sand pit to his left.  This rabbit yard is NOT secure for overnight because it is open on top.  We  only have him out there during the day when we are home to check on him. He sleeps in the hutch at night.

A Baptism on the Feast of the Presentation

Today at Mass, our granddaughter became a child of God.   She was baptized in the same dress her mother wore, in the same church as her mother, and she also has the same godmother!

Old & New

My paternal ancestors immigrated to America from Czechoslovakia in the late 1800s.   A family history was compiled and bound into a book in the late 1990s.  My older brother received one of the copies for my family.  It was only several months ago that I finally had the opportunity to really read this book about the history of my family and I found it so wonderfully interesting.

A few months ago my aunt sent me some family artifacts.  Among them were some sacramental records of my paternal grandfather, who I never knew was Catholic.  I received his Baptismal Certificate, his First Holy Communion rosary and prayer book and arm band.  I really can't describe how much I treasure these things.  What is most fascinating to me is that the priest who signed the baptismal certificate was mentioned many times in the book!

Today, as I was perusing Trademark Catholic Stationery in anticipation of my own granddaughter's baptism, I happened to notice something:

Above, on the left is my grandfather's baptismal record from 1923 written in Czech.  On the right on my computer screen is the same sacramental record being offered by Trademark Catholic Stationary.
 A closer view.
This is so amazing to me!  It really makes me think how important it might be for my granddaughter to have this baptism record hanging on her wall.

My Daybook - January 13, 2014

Outside my window... 48 degrees.  Slightly windy. Occasionally sunny.  No rain.

I am thinking... about homeschooling.  Most especially for Boyson.  We are in the middle of 9th grade.  It's been hard.  Really hard.  I lack confidence.  I am weary.  We ditched some plans that weren't working and that makes me feel like I am all over the place without a good plan. The irony is that I think some of the problem lies in trying to conform to what everyone else (translated: curriculum providers) says we should be doing.   I am finding it way harder to "go it alone" for high school because I am very nervous about it being enough.  Sigh.

I am thankful... for several orders in my Etsy shop over the weekend.  The extra bit of income helps, and it motivates me to keep on working towards my goals.

I am hoping... that my order of boxes shows up today so that I can ship said orders.

In the kitchen... tonight: Slow Cooker Hawaiian Beef over rice.  Tomorrow:  Beef Stew.

I am wearing... black work out pants and my US Navy t-shirt.

I am creating... baby booties.

I am wondering... about the future of this blog.  I know it's been awhile since I have been doing much posting.  I feel challenged to have something to write on any given day.  And I feel nervous sometimes about putting it all out there for everyone to see.

I am reading... college textbooks.  Oh, and I think we are going to do this as a family read-aloud:

I am looking forward to... seeing my new little granddaughter today!

I am learning . . . Records Management.  Hey everyone, there is waaaaay more to filing than you could ever imagine.  I think I am going to like this class a lot!

Around the house... Just the usual.  Cook. Clean. Re-do.

I am pondering... school plans for next year.  Yes, I know it's only January, but I am a planner.

One of my favorite things...

A few plans for the rest of the week:
  • St. Vincent de Paul
  • Math class for Boyson
  • Business Communication Class for me
  • Toastmasters for Boyson
  • Latin Class for Boyson
  • Piano for Lil Guhl
  • Yes, it's a busy one.
  A peek into my day...
