Humanities HW 6/2, 6/3

  1. If you didn’t submit your textbook to me after the test, please remove old post its and place a new one on the front cover of your textbook with your name and textbook number written on the front.
  2. 7-3 and 7-2 should have received a permission slip and release form (that’s two separate sheets) for the trip to Alley Pond Park. 7-1 and 7-4 should receive those forms from Mr. Mehan. Please read over the slips with your parents and decide whether you are participating. If you are, please turn in your forms and payment to me as soon as you can.
  3. You can remove the materials from this current unit from your binder.
  4. Team Geography Bee next week on Wednesday after school. Ms. Dikes (the 12th grade history teacher) and I put together this fun competition every year with prizes and food and general merriment. If you are interested in participating, you don’t have to sign up, just show up. These questions are different from the National Geographic Bee I organized earlier in the year. The questions on this competition we write ourselves. Kids from all grades participate but the last two years, teams of middle school kids have won. If you participate, you will receive extra credit on our last test.

Humanities HW 5/31, 6/1

  1. Study for your upcoming creating government’s test. 7-3 is on Thursday, 7-2 and 7-1 are on Friday.
Use the test review sheet to help organize your work and studying: Test Review Sheet 2016
If you’re missing any handouts, you can find a link for the handouts from the unit here: https://humanities7.wordpress.com/unit-5-creating-governments-handouts/

2. How to study for the test.

In terms of the most effective ways to study, I would say that simply rereading all your notes over and over again would be ineffective and a waste of time. Start with the test review sheet. See how much you know by testing yourself. Compare your answers to your notes. What do you need to review more? What do you know well? Let your self tests be your guidelines.

You should also test yourself on the separation of powers and checks and balances work we did in class along with your quiz. Cover up the answers and see how well you can answer these questions.

Short essay

I am also going to ask you to write a short essay explaining the goals of the Constitution. I will ask you to explain specific historical events that led to these goals and discuss specific elements in the Constitution as examples and explain how those examples accomplished the goals of the Constitution (this is the work we did the last couple of classes).

In terms of organizing your thoughts and approaches, don’t treat each question, element, and vocabulary word as though they were separate and unrelated. Organize them starting from the broadest ideas about the goals of the constitution. Then think about the elements that accomplished those goals. What does each element specifically mean? How are they applied? And included in all of that are the vocabulary terms.

June is a busy month with days off and such. Here is a copy of the calendar for middle school. You should be getting a paper copy in advisory as well but make sure you take a look.

Humanities HW 5/25, 5/26

7-2.

Make a packet of your work from this unit to prepare for your test next week.

7-1, 7-3

  1. If you didn’t finish adding 3/5 Compromise to your elements of the Constitution chart, then please do so for homework (7-1)
  2. In class, we made a list of limits and balances in the Constitution. For each item on the list, explain specifically how it accomplished the goal of creating an effective, limited government. I will ask you on this upcoming test to write a short essay about this so please take time to do a good job and bring in the questions you have.
  3. Unit test on the creating governments unit on Thursday, June 2nd (7-3) and Friday, June 3rd (7-2 and 7-1). We will look over our test review sheets next class to go over what you need to know and study to prepare for the test.

Humanities HW 5/23, 5/24

(7-2 only)

  1. Write a body paragraph taking a position on the GQ: Should continue using the electoral college system to elect the President? Don’t simply summarize the list we put up in class. Develop your own position based on the work we did and develop it like a proper body paragraph with a topic sentence, evidence (no citations needed), and a connection between your evidence and your topic sentence. You can discuss counter arguments as well but try not to make it too long.

All Streams

Unit test on the creating governments unit on Wednesday, June 1st (7-2 and 7-1) and Thursday, June 2nd (7-3). We will look over our test review sheets next class to go over what you need to know and study to prepare for the test.
