India has been a chief source of commerce and materials for industries for the British colony ever since it started commercial profiling there. There has been the East India Company from whose supremacy the British got to establish the entire empire. Back from there a Scottish young entrepreneur set up a substantial business interest in jute, tea, cotton, coal and insurance by 1875 named Andre Yule. But after independence of India it has predominantly faced drastic problems post 1963 and it went to the public sector and is now a Government of India Enterprise exclusively. The present units are expertising in Engineering, Tea, Printing, Lubricants, Digital Communication etc.
Today it has some marketing and turnover issues regarding their products but it is an awe-inspiring source of R&D procedures and has gradually increased its growth via modified products of engineering.
Back in August, 2016 the entire group of Calcutta Instagrammers developed a detailed photographic view of the engineering works at Andre Yule, Kalyani.
PRODUCTS
- Apart from other products this engineering unit is specially based upon centrifugal fan production which technicalize in the use of ID fans. The ID fans are extensively used in baghouse filters and other pollution treatment of air specially from Suspended Particulate Matter.
- Their R&D works have brought them a new product, an axial fan perfectly used for blowing both useful and used air in industries. It serves as both a combustion accelerator and as an air pollutant exhaust.
- Plate girders are also one of the products that they make which are precast materials for bridges.
MACHINERIES
In these parts the company has the core strength but the machineries are generally of old techniques though they are large scale machineries with huge production efficiency. Though a major catastrophe occurred when the tea product got terminated from the inventory but the other products flourished. The furnaces for drying tea leaves are existent with null workability but the lathe machine, cutters and welders are of good quality with the perfect specification and automated systems.
Lathe is the mother of all machines and hence it always finds a place in the mechanical industry. Apart from that the cutters and welders and grinders are in store.
EMPLOYERS AND EMPLOYEES
Starting from GM to the junior engineers the office building is a complete strong interactive team with a lot of young talents and wise heads of elderly men. The employee strength goes to 40+ in this sector of Andre Yule, Kalyani. The group works with effortful efficiency and as a unity to achieve the goals.
The employees are sectorized to have a classified goal. Different teams have a specific goals which makes all the deliverables of the company in a methodological stance of success.
The perseverance has been key to their unique products. The basic strength of the employees lies in the engineering and marketing sections. Engineers here are nourished with a extensive one year training as fresher. During the trainee phase all the sectors of work is covered by the engineer and an evaluative examination is a must. But with the level of product manufacture the marketing or the outflow of product is a must win situation. Even being the most important section of the company, the situation of marketing is not very feasible or susceptible. Though a word with the GM has a lot which explained about the upcoming marketing strategies to be taken.
We are lagging behind in marketing. Though the market is not high demand based but the susceptible demand is what we need to meet.

To the rest of the sectors, for eg. Accounts, HR, etc. has equal responsibilities to keep the functioning of the office in a decorum and discipline.
WORKERS
The most important unit of the factory- the labourers. Andre Yule has been in all together a huge working hub for the workers and the hand skilled labours who gives the mechanical work a real shape, a true engineering and a fascinating finish. It all comes down from the design to the hand arts of these men who actually perceive the taste of true production from their own fingers. Talking to few of them was a lot experience.
Worker 1(a welder): “We have gone through a training programme and there we learnt more skillful techniques of welding certain parts, required for the ID fans from the senior workers. Since then no turning back, all the same it made me a workaholic person and the increment has been by far very good and hope to have a future here only. But the only problem is that I face a lot of skin sufferings. Though the mask and the helmet provides absolute safety but the clothes are not that safe even though I wear a thick inner.”
Interactions at Andre Yule, has a different feel. It actually bridges generations and a beautifully team minded ability and an urge of working.
Worker 2: “Well the increments are not high but the place has an absolute atmosphere for learning and self-evaluation. It also provides us with great working conditions. But the rate of increments are making me uncertain of my future in this company”
COMMERCE
Andre Yule is a major manufacturer of Industrial fans which are a chief applicant at the baghouse filters for controlling air pollution. They have broken the shackles of trading domestically a long back and they are expanding their foreign trades gradually. From Egypt to the Central Asian countries and extending to the South East Asia, companies products has been selected for the baghouse purpose by the industrialists. They are hoping for the best outcome in the recent future with more marketing strategies determining the susceptible demands to grow by their products.
