On Wednesday, June 5th, Capoeira STL Collective will explain the history of capoeira, dazzle with a professional capoeira performance, and teach the crowd a few moves.

Their collective is committed to fostering a safe and inclusive environment where everyone can explore and grow in Capoeira, celebrating its rich cultural heritage and community-building spirit.

Have you ever picked up a rock and thought, “Wow! That is really cool! I wonder how that formed?” If you have ever put one of those rocks in your pocket and brought it home, then this is your chance to have a geologist help answer your question about how the rock formed and what it represents. On Thursday, June 6, bring your favorite rocks to share with others, and see what others have to share. If you think it is interesting then undoubtedly others will too. Whether you are 5 or 95 this program is right for you. Dr. Russell Myers, a geologist and rockhound who retired to Arcadia after a career of gold prospecting all over the world, will be happy to examine your specimens and field your questions on any geological topic. Natural Resource Manager and Interpreter for Missouri State Parks, Bryan Bethel and Brick Autry, will show us how to create dishes from the past focusing on pre-settlement, settlement, and early 1900s time periods. These dishes include Native American corn dishes, stew, pie, and squirrel on a stick. Registration is required. Best for ages 5 and older. The rain date is scheduled for Saturday, June 22.

As an MA in history, Paul’s no stranger to scouring books and finding obscure sources for study. He is a Missouri Master Naturalist, and creator of Facebook groups, Wild Edibles of Missouri (over 9,500 members) and Missouri Entomophagy, referred to by some of the experts in the field as one of the most active entomophagy forums in the world, with over 1000 members.
Learn the basics of electrical circuits through play! Squishy circuit kits contain special insulating and conductive dough to help young users build simple objects that light up. This class will be presented by Matt Ursch of Positive Energy Electrical Contractors, a licensed electrician who has owned his own electrical contracting business since 2013. Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center will teach participants essential techniques for designing and maintaining a beautiful, sustainable flower garden. Best for ages 18 and older.
Join us for this intergenerational program at Ozark Manor and Meadowbrook Residential Care! The library will delight the crowd with tales and songs, and then we’ll bridge the intergenerational gap by drawing portraits of the residents. This event is fun for all ages, bringing together different generations through the joy of art and storytelling. Professional skills aren’t required—just bring your creativity and enjoy the experience!
Hosted by Quail Forever Farm Bill Wildlife Biologist, Blake Abt, this program will focus on the different types of Missouri pollinators and the importance in keeping our natural resources healthy. We will create “Seed Pack Butterflies” for attendees to plant at their homes. Registration recommended.

How to Get Started with Libby Missouri Libraries 2 Go -- Our connection to LibbyThe Voices of the Ozarks project which started in Fredericktown pre-COVID will be renewed and expanded with a focus on family recipes and intergenerational dialogues in 2024!
The goal is to record approximately two (2) interviews per month (one in the Fredericktown library and one in the Ironton library) from April through December of 2024. These short audio recordings will be posted online with photos of the participants, the recipe, and a sample (when possible) to celebrate the past and present of Ozark cuisine. This program is designed to be a recorded dialogue between our older and younger generations, but participants are not required to bring someone with them. This year’s IMLS funded Summer Library Program is titled Adventure Begins at Your Library: Explore Your Senses, which will focus on using senses to bring stories and education to life. Register online at ozarkregional.org beginning May 27th to track your reading and earn prizes. We'll have programs for all ages such as a professional capoeira performance—Brazilian martial arts, a wild edible insect program, an Ozark family cooking class, sensory story times, cooking classes, and so much more!
