The San Francisco skyline is dominated by the Golden Gate Bridge, but in the early 1960s, there was another feature of the landscape that may have been even more famous. Before the Summer of Love, before the sexual revolution, there was Carol Doda, an audacious cocktail waitress who became world-renowned as the first topless dancer in America.

This lighthearted new documentary doesn’t hold back on the larger issues – feminism, sexuality, and the “male gaze” – that Doda exposed.
