Jammu, May 31: Amid reports that Congress is trying to involve Mehbooba Mufti in a proposed grand alliance in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the National Conference president and former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah has extended an olive branch to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief.

Jammu, May 31: Following a devastating road accident near the Akhnoor sub-division in Jammu district, which claimed the lives of 22 pilgrims, the Union Territory administration has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
In the past two years, the administration has ordered three inquiries in response to repeated road accidents across different areas of Jammu province. However, the recommendations from these panels have yet to be implemented, and fatalities on the roads continue unabated in the region.

Jammu, May 31: Six transport department officials in Jammu and Kashmir were suspended for alleged dereliction of duty on Friday, a day after 22 people were killed and 64 injured in a bus accident in Jammu district.
The tragic incident occurred on Thursday, when the bus carrying 86 devotees from Haryana’s Kurukshetra and heading towards the Shiv Khori shrine in Reasi district skidded off the Jammu-Poonch highway and plunged into a 150-foot gorge. The water level of the country’s 150 main reservoirs has dropped to 23 per cent and is also 77 per cent less than last year’s levels at this time, according to Central Water Commission (CWC) data. Last week, the live storage of these reservoirs was at 24 per cent.
The present storage is merely 77 per cent of last year’s levels and 94 per cent of the normal storage, CWC data stated.
In its latest weekly bulletin, released on Friday, the commission said that “the total live storage available is 41.705 billion cubic metres (BCM), equating to 23 per cent of the total capacity”.

JAMMU, May 31: Security forces launched a massive search operation on Friday after a brief exchange of fire with terrorists in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Official sources said that a brief exchange of fire took place on Thursday evening between terrorists and security forces in the Marha Buffliaz area of Poonch district.
