Summer Camp

AGES 7–12 | JUNE 24–AUGUST 16

Located on our Butter Lane campus in Bridgehampton, NY, these immersive week-long programs are designed to support the individual camper’s mind, body, and spirit.

Art

PAINTING, DRAWING, SCULPTURE, AND CERAMICS

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9 am–3 pm

Creativity and artistic expression are the main focus of this immersion as campers discover their artistic abilities with the guidance of professional artists.

Campers will learn about the methods and styles of various well-known artists through a combination of drawing, painting, collage, and sculpture. New this summer is Ceramics Studio! Campers will explore and express themselves in the medium of clay under the guidance of a ceramic artist who teaches both coil and slab-building techniques. Campers will also learn to throw pottery on a wheel and to trim and glaze pieces. They will develop their own throwing styles, investigate traditional forms and experiment with new ones, and explore surface design, glazing, and firing processes.

Performance

DRAMA, MOVEMENT, AND IMPROVISATION

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9 am–3 pm

Campers will have the opportunity to express themselves through the Performing Arts, including theater, movement, and improvisation.

Theater–Aspiring thespians will develop their personal voice through theater arts. Workshops include role-playing through improvisational games, scene study, monologues, and ensemble work. 

Movement–Students learn improvisation, composition, partnering, and performance approaches under professional guidance.

Naturalist Explorers

CHEMISTRY, NATURE, ANIMALS, BUGS & INSECTS, BIRDS, AND GARDENING

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9 am–3 pm

Get up close and personal with our local flora and fauna as we explore and examine the natural environment on the beautiful Ross campus.

Get up close and personal with our local flora and fauna. Campers explore and examine the natural environment on the beautiful Ross campus—hiking, observing and collecting specimens, and keeping track of their adventures by writing and sketching in a personalized journal. Visits to the Ross Garden will allow campers to learn how to plant, tend to, and watch their seeds grow. Experiments in the lab will also inspire young, scientific minds.

This program will be offered Weeks 3–8 only.

9 am: Introduce daily or weekly theme. Explore open-ended scientific discovery (look at molecules through a microscope, observe and draw unusual plants/flowers, observe patterns in shells, rocks, gems, etc.)

9:30: Project of the Day (local wildlife, insects, garden, etc.)

10:30 am: Snack (please bring a snack and refillable water bottle)

10:40 am: Continue with Project of the Day*

*Each Wednesday, local wildlife educators, including Quogue Wildlife Refuge, visit to introduce campers to mammals, amphibians, and birds. Campers also visit a local organic farm to learn about agriculture and have access to Ross Lower School Animal Farm and Garden.

Filmmaking/Stop-Motion Animation

Schedule: Full Day, 9 am–3 pm

Campers explore and express themselves in a variety of digital media, including film, photography, and stop-motion animation.

Campers collaborate on a stop motion project

Filmmaking–Campers use digital video cameras to experiment with camera movement, composition, and in-camera editing.

Stop-Motion Animation–Using a variety of materials and techniques, students explore the art of creating the illusion of motion. Workshop projects bring everyday objects to life through frame-by-frame animation using sand, clay, paper cutouts, and pixelation. 

Both Film and Stop-Motion Animation will have presentations at the end of weeks 2, 4, 6, and 8. As filmmaking and stop-motion animation require a lot of time, we recommend campers sign up for two-week sessions starting with weeks 1, 3, 5, and 7.

Inventors Workshop 

CODING, ROBOTICS, DRONES, AND LEGOS

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9 am–3 pm

Campers develop logic and problem-solving skills that will shape how they approach any challenge they encounter.

In Inventors Workshop, campers are not merely passive learners; they become innovators. Immersed in logic and problem-solving, they engage in hands-on experiences to design, build, and program VEX robots. Through structured programming activities and real-world project scenarios, they hone their coding skills and computational thinking. Additionally, they explore 3D printing, creating accessories for their robots, and participating in cooperative competitions for 3D-printed metals. Delving into engineering and design puzzles, they push the boundaries of innovation while uncovering the history of invention and computing. The culmination of their journey is the creation of their innovation to address a real-world problem, showcasing their creativity and making a tangible impact on the world. At the workshop, the possibilities for innovation are limitless.

Culinary Arts

COOKING, BAKING NUTRITION, KITCHEN SAFETY, AND SUSTAINABILITY

Open to Campers Ages 9–12

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9 am–3 pm

Campers explore their gastronomic potential under the guidance of a professionally trained chef!

Hands-on workshops incorporate basic culinary and baking skills, healthy eating, and flavor expansion. The session emphasizes the use of fresh and seasonal ingredients from our local East End farms. The appetizing results inspire respect for our food as campers learn to prepare it safely and sustainably.

Fashion Design

PATTERN DESIGN, FASHION HISTORY, AND HAND AND MACHINE SEWING

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9 am–3 pm

Strike a pose! Campers express themselves through creative fashion design and share their ideas and visions via the runway in this Project Runway–inspired major.

Campers learn the basics of needle and thread, design patterns, and use sewing machines to create the pieces they envision, referencing historical periods and fashion styles for inspiration. At the end of the session, campers show off their creations to family and friends in a runway-style fashion show!

It is highly recommended that campers register for two weeks at a time.

Puppetry

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9 am–3 pm

Campers take part in hands-on puppet-making workshops, story development, and performances

Our enchanting summer camp program, in partnership with Goat on a Boat Puppet Theater, invites campers aged 6-12 to explore the magic of puppetry. Led by experienced artists, campers will engage in hands-on workshops, creating and performing with puppets. Each week features a new theme, from mythical creatures to outer space adventures, sparking creativity and storytelling. Live performances by Goat on a Boat Puppet Theatre inspire campers and cultivate a love for the arts. With a focus on creativity and collaboration, campers develop communication and problem-solving skills while experiencing the joy of puppetry. Join us for a summer of imagination, laughter, and endless possibilities!

CIT Program

Our CIT program invites 13- to 14-year-old campers to participate in their desired camp Immersions while learning to mentor younger campers, mediate and problem-solve their way through issues, and train to become camp counselors.

This program requires an application, an interview, and a two-week commitment, as well as the desire to be a leader in the summer camp community.

After registration, CIT campers will be contacted to set up an interview and discuss their Immersion preferences.
