The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Inspector is a full-time law enforcement position within the DMV. It also interacts extensively with other federal and state agencies, law enforcement agencies, industry groups, the Department of Motor Vehicles Permit Unit, and Commercial Vehicle Operations.

The ideal candidate must be motivated, have excellent time management skills, and can work and make decisions independently. This position primarily works in an outdoor setting during all weather conditions. While this position is home-based, the Inspectors will be expected to travel daily to an assigned region in various counties throughout the state. Daily activities and assignments are generally scheduled two weeks in advance but are subject to the department's needs and current mission. Typical assignments are comprised of motor vehicle patrol focusing on all aspects of highway safety and infrastructure protection, fixed site truck inspection details, and various other assigned tasks that support the department's mission.

This position is assigned a take-home enforcement vehicle and receives a storage allowance per the Collective Bargaining Agreement. It requires some travel for training and mission-oriented activities. The position also requires successful completion of a criminal history record check, motor vehicle history record check, background investigation, and polygraph test.

This position is classified as a Motor Vehicle Inspector by the Department of Human Resources.
