July 2nd, 2020 Increasing Black Representation in the Type Community Now The Society of Typographic Aficionados is holding a Virtual Town Hall on Saturday, July 18th to listen, take advice, and make changes in order to increase Black representation at TypeCon. See the full announcement for details. June 17th, 2020 Statement: Black Lives Matter Making decisions that benefit everyone in the SOTA and TypeCon community is of the utmost importance to us. Black Lives Matter challenges us to do more for our Black and marginalized members. We’re examining how our organization can not only stand by our commitment to inclusivity but also use our platform to confront the lack of diversity in our field. As part of these efforts, we’re hosting a town hall discussion in the near future to start this conversation. Please join us in building a path forward and doing this work together. May 11th, 2020 TypeCon Philadelphia Postponed to 2021 Given the state of the pandemic globally, we’ve decided to postpone this year’s conference in Philadelphia until August 18th – 22nd, 2021. February 25th, 2020 SOTA Catalyst Award Call for Entries The Society of Typographic Aficionados is now accepting applications for its eleventh annual Catalyst Award. The award is targeted at young people who have created original work in type design, type history, or other areas related to typography. It recognizes a person 25 years of age or younger who shows both achievement and future promise in the field of typography. Please refer to the official call for entries for details. February 12th, 2020 TypeCon2020 Call for Programming Proposals The Society of Typographic Aficionados is now accepting proposals for the 2020 TypeCon conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. See the official call for proposals for details. February 11th, 2020 TypeCon2020 Heads to Philadelphia Mark those calendars. TypeCon is heading to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania — August 12th to 16th. Join us at Philadelphia Marriott Downtown for a fantastic week filled with everything lettering and type. August 31st, 2019 SOTA Typography Award Honors Paul Shaw Designer and historian Paul Shaw has been honored with the 2019 SOTA Typography Award.
