We will host live presentations in the morning, including our keynote speaker s presentation and our annual meeting. The remainder of presentations will be recorded and available for you to view that afternoon or at a time that is convenient for you.We are excited that Jackie Murray, Associate Professor of Classics at the University of Kentucky, will serve as our keynote speaker. Professor Murray's talk will offer a reading of the Odyssey that will help us understand what racism is, how it is created and how it is maintained by societies through storytelling. "Racecraft in the Odyssey" considers the social mechanisms of the epic world of the Homeric heroes that create and reinforce the oppressive hierarchy the heroes imposed on those they enslaved. The Odyssey is an excellent text to think with about these issues because it provides a perspective from a different culture that is nevertheless deeply embedded in our own ways of constructing and maintaining racism. At this time, the Texas Classical Association announces our call for presentations. We invite educators, scholars and students from across Texas to share a 20-30 minute presentation at this conference. Those who wish to submit a proposal are required to be members of the TCA. Presentations on any topic concerning the teaching and study of Classics are welcome. If you are interested in submitting a proposal, please fill out this Google Form, indicating your preference to give a recorded or live presentation and a one-paragraph abstract no later than September 13th (this is an extended deadline). You may contact Nicole via email at president-elect@txclassics.org if you have any questions. We hope that many of you will attend our virtual conference. We suggest a conference fee of only $10, so this is the perfect time to learn more about the quality professional development we offer at our annual conference.ScholarshipsThe Texas Classical Association wants to remind members that applications for some of its scholarships are due in the coming months:The TCA Gareth Morgan Student Teacher ScholarshipStudent teachers enrolled in a Latin certification program in Texas are encouraged to apply for one of two $500 TCA Gareth Morgan Student Teacher scholarships.
