This post contains affiliate links.Well, it finally happened you guys! I have a white table in my dining room! Don't get me wrong, I loved my old brown table. Loved it a ton, but the top veneer was peeling off oh so bad, beyond repair. I couldn't bring myself to paint that table...although it got discussed often over dinner! It was getting to a point where it was either find a new table, or paint that one. I know it's so weird, but I really couldn't bring myself to paint it. The legs were just so pretty and I was afraid I would lose that character. And I actually liked the brown. It has been an inner battle for the past few years on what to do...in the mean time, the top was only getting worse. One day I was scrolling through marketplace to actually find an old chair, even typed in the search "vintage chair" and guess what came up...this table. Well, it didn't look like this. It was white and a little awful, but the best thing was that it was $50 and big. Even though I talked often enough about getting a new table, I wasn't actively searching. So, I made a quick decision, and bought the table. Really, who can say no to a $50 table?I decided I would pretty it up quickly, and it can at least give me an idea if I even really liked having a white table in my dining room. If I liked it, I could easily sell it and paint my old one. That was the plan. The lady I bought it from painted the top part of the table white, and left the legs. I bought some chalk paint thinking this would be a quick flip. I was soooo wrong. The table had some pretty lines in it, and I wanted to remove some of the paint from the lines to make them more defined before I put my coats of paint on it. The paint started peeling off the table. The lady who painted the top before didn't sand it nor add any primer. It was awful. Also, it surprised me that underneath the paint was a brown table! Nothing at all like the legs. So, I knew I had to take that layer of paint off so my paint would last longer and look nicer. Holy crud. Have you ever stripped paint off of something?? It's not fun. At first I was just pulling hand size pieces of paint off, then I realized I needed to use something else. I bought some spray foaming paint stripper, that worked well, but it was messy.Once I got all the paint I needed to come off, I set it up in my dining room. I knew this would be the easiest way to paint and not have it get nicked trying to bring it in. I was actually super surprised how how much the top of this resembled my old table. The legs and apron were painted, stained and destressed by the manufacturer, so I chose not to strip those since I knew the chalk paint would adhere well....and I wasn't concerned about crazing paint peeling.I chose to use Rust-oleum's Chalked in Linen White. I ended up doing two coats of the paint over the entire table and legs. Before each layer was fully dry, I went through with a skewer and made those lines more defined, along with find the little "holes" that made this table have more character.Once the table was fully dry, I went through and did a small sanding using finishing sandpaper on areas I wanted to have a little more wear. This included the sides and corners, along with where plates would often be. I put some 'wear' on the outer sides of the legs, and on the apron.Since the color underneath the tabletop was dark, I didn't have to add anything else to achieve the look. But, the legs had that lighter color, so I went through with a q-tip and dark walnut sand, and carefully applied what I thought was the perfect amount of darkness to the legs.I then sealed the entire table with the matte clear topcoat from Rust-oleum also. I used two coats to get the needed durability for the abuse that would inevitably happen to this table.I've had this table now for about a month, and love it! It has been so nice not having to look at my dingy nasty tabletop anymore! ha! It's nice having it so bright in here also. I know I'm going to love having my tablescapes pop off of it more also. Only regret? Now I have to use placemats at every meal. I'm so concerned about something spilling and staining the table. Also, I moved my kids play doe fun to the floor :)Will I ever bring back my other table? The short answer is yes, on Thanksgiving :) Only because we are hosting it this year and need more seating! I'll be rearranging our living room and fit the kids on that table. I haven't had this table in here long enough to know if I would prefer my old one or not. I really loved the character of that one, but I love the brightness of this one. I imagine one day, I just end up painting my old one and selling this one.My oldest often asks why I like to have everything white... It's true in a way, but it's actually only true in the sense that white makes the other colors pop that much more. I love wood tones, and wood against white is just perfect. Same with greens and other colors. Even pink! Birthdays on this table are going to be fun because I'll no longer need a tablecloth to make the decor stand out more :)What are your thoughts? Do you like my white table or brown table more? This may be the last that you see of all my fall decor! This weekend Christmas will be visiting my house :) It'll be a serious Christmas tree farm. I bought like 5 trees, differing sizes, on clearance last year. I meant to look through them and return some but never did. So, yeah. It will be a serious amount of trees going on if I choose to use all of them along with my others!I have so many projects happening right now....can't wait to share them all with you! I have a fun, easy project that transitions easily from fall decor into Halloween decor. The best thing about it, is that it looks like it costs a lot more than it does! This two tier tray was under $10 to make! The secret to making this look so good is the paint! Here's the supplies you will need to make this:2 wood plaques (I got mind from Hobby Lobby, a rectangle and a circle)1 wood candlestick. ( I opted for a thicker version found in the home decor area of Hobby Lobby)Hot glueDecoArt Americana Enchanted in Ultra-Black Basecoat and Enchanted Shimmer in Gold.Step 1: Depending on what kind of candlestick you use, you may need to take out the metal cup or metal top. I used my pliers to get this out.Step 2: Using the Enchanted Ultra-Black Basecoat, paint all the pieces with two coats of paint. Wait for the first layer to be dry to the touch before applying the other layer.Step 3: Add 1-2 coats of the Enchanted Shimmer in Gold onto each piece. It's tricky because it goes on white but dries to reveal millions of luminous translucent particles. These particles make a beautiful shimmery sparkle that changes from every angle.I went with 2 coats of the Enchanted Shimmer for full coverage to give that old plated gold look.I also added the Enchanted Shimmer in Gold to some loose magnolia leaves I had lying around. I did a light layer to give them the perfect little shimmer. These will be used for my tablescape when the tray is all put together.Step 4: Find the middle of the top piece, and carefully position the candlestick base onto it. Once I got a good idea of where it should be, I used a ruler to measure the perpendicular lines going through the middle circle to make sure the candle stick was equidistant from the edge of the round plaque on each side. I then used the hot glue to secure into place.Step 5: Do the same thing with the bottom plaque and secure the candlestick in the middle with hot glue. Here's a good view of the brushed gold look. If only you can see the shimmer in person! It looks like an old gold gong. For my fall tablescape, I placed pumpkins around on the tiered tray, and used the shimmery gold magnolia leaves to fill in some areas. And here's the easy transition into my Halloween tablescape. I added a tattered black runner, and replaced the pumpkins with skulls. I removed the magnolia leaves and put some old amber bottles to complete the look.Nothing like having a head on a platter! I have used lots of paint in the past, and this is by far my favorite shimmery/sparkle paint. I'm excited to use it on some Christmas crafts and gifts!Want more inspiration like this from DecoArt and other amazing bloggers? This post contains affiliate links. My dining room recently has been evolving little by little. So far, I've added new wall decor and a new chandelier. Today I'm sharing my updated fall tablescape decor, but soon I'll be sharing my new table! Yep. I did it. I finally got my white table. I'm excited to share that with you soon....and I'll share all the reasons I replaced this table...even though I love it so much! But today I'm going just talk about what I put into making this neutral fall table setting with accents of greenery and amber bottles.Jute rug:Amazon Farmhouse Chairs:Amazon Faux Beam: Tutorial Slipcover Chairs: Ikea Window Frame: Kirklands Arched Window frames: Antique FarmhouseFor this tablescape, I went with mainly neutral colors and then decided to fill it in with this greenery I found Michaels. When you get their sale, they can be really cheap! This was from the fall line for half off, so $10!As always with my centerpieces, I began with height in the center, and then cascaded downwards. The height came from a small planter stool and candle stick. Both of these are from Hobby Lobby. For fillers, I used some cement and terracotta pots, beaded garland, vintage amber bottles, and obviously pumpkins. Even though all my pumpkins are white, I went with a lot of different looking faux ones to keep it a little more interesting.I'm loving these small amber bottles I found at a local antique store. They were about $1 each. I wish they had more! The color just screams fall decor to me. They add the perfect little vintage touch.I found this vintage wood candy dish also at the same antique store. I wasn't sure what to do with it for awhile, but just really loved it. I had a pumpkin in it, and then decided to add some acorns instead. To balance out the tablescape on this side, I added these loose book pages. Loose pages are my favorite decor fillers.I corralled all the "center" stuff in this upside down wood riser. I found this gem at Home Goods. I decided to use it as a tray instead of it's intended use. This runner is also from Home Goods. It is so long, 10 feet! Long enough and wide enough to cover all the yucky parts of my table. Here's a good look on the cascading effect. I do love having symmetry, but this is a good balance of symmetry with asymmetrical items. To add to this look, I switched out the end pillows with these pretty striped ones from Hobby Lobby. I also switched out the middle chair for this antique wood one I got at a junk sale for $5!I always love a good before and after...which will be even greater with the new table. But I'll share one with you here anyway :) Same table, same room...just lots of different decor!I have so many projects happening right now....can't wait to share them all with you!
