Professor Friederike Jentoft of the Chemical Engineering Department has been awarded a $550,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) Office of Science Financial Assistance Program to continue her groundbreaking work on acid catalyst design. Acid catalysis plays a key role in commercially established and emerging processes to produce chemicals and fuels by efficient transformation of petroleum- or biomass-derived feedstocks. Professor Emeritus David Pozar of the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department has received the 2020 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S) Field Award for Distinguished Achievement. Pozar was selected by the AP-S “for significant contributions to the electromagnetic analysis, development, and design of microstrip phased arrays and reflectarrays, and for educational leadership and service to the electromagnetics community.” UMass Robotics Team Joins NASA Competition A new student-run UMass Robotics Team is competing in the NASA Lunabotics competition by building an “off-world mining robot” capable of digging through sand and gathering precious soil material similar to what a robot might do on the Moon or Mars.
