New County of San Mateo Health Order Aligns with Statewide Reopening- June 17, 2020With the completion of the variance process with the State of California, San Mateo County Health Officer Dr. Scott Morrow has issued a new order to align the county with Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Resilience Roadmap. Businesses in San Mateo County will now follow the state’s schedule for reopening but must adhere to the local order’s COVID-19 safety measures and follow state guidance. The local shelter in place order of June 4, 2020, has been rescinded and replaced with a new health officer order emphasizing individual behavior and the practices businesses must follow as they resume operations. Shelter-in-Place Order Extended through May 31, Some Restrictions Reduced- April 29, 2020Seven Bay Area County Health Officers extended the Shelter-in-Place Order through the end of May, while some restrictions are eased and tools to strengthen containment of COVID-19 are put into place. The social distancing intervention has slowed the increase of new cases and prevented the anticipated medical surge. As restrictions are eased, it is critical to ensure that growth of cases can be sufficiently contained to protect the health and safety of our community. Racism and xenophobia have no place in Daly City. The World Health Organization states that "stigmatization could potentially contribute to more severe health problems, ongoing transmission, and difficulties controlling infectious diseases during an epidemic." Stigma can drive people to hide the illness to avoid discrimination, prevent people from seeking health care immediately, and discourage them from adopting health behaviors. Please treat your fellow community members with kindness during this time. Racism and xenophobia can significantly hurt our efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19. According to the CDC, stigma hurts everyone by creating fear or anger towards other people. Stigma affects the emotional or mental health of stigmatized groups and the communities they live in. Stopping stigma is important to making communities and community members resilient.Everyone can help stop stigma related to COVID-19 byknowing the facts and sharing them with others in your community. Diseases can make anyone sick regardless of their race or ethnicity. Fear and anxiety about COVID-19 can cause people to avoid or reject others even though they are not at risk for spreading the virus.City Services During Shelter-in-Place OrderDaly City has closed most facilities and City departments to the public to reduce the spread of COVID-19.Event Cancellations: Neighborhood Parking Forums have been cancelled. The City continues to offer an online, pinnable map where you can place comments on specific areas, like a road in your neighborhood. The Finance Department will not be charging late fees or assessing interest on past due balances on utility bills. Utility bill payments are still due 30 days past the invoice date.Street Sweeping Resumes June 15:Please ensure to move your vehicles for the street sweeper starting again on June 15. Thank you for your cooperation!Garbage, Recycling Compost Collection Continues:Republic Services continues to service your garbage carts on your scheduled collection day. The City has granted Republic the ability to begin collection one hour earlier to allow for extra time required to navigate City streets while street sweeping is suspended. Many Republic collection routes are synced with City street sweeping.Emergency Services:The Daly City Police Department and North County Fire Authority continue to provide emergency response.Please only dial 9-1-1 in emergencies.
