Celebrating Earth Day 2020 In celebration of Earth Day, we highlight the early March collaboration of Dr. Whitcraft's Wetland Ecology Lab, CSU Fullerton, and the Orange County Coastkeeper to restore the Native Olympia Oysters habitat at the Jack Dunster Marine Reserve in Long Beach. Dean s Message Regarding COVID-19 Disruptions I would like to thank the students, faculty, staff, and community for all of your hard work and patience at this time of ever-changing directives regarding operations at Cal State Long Beach. Dr. Tian Innovates Materials Inspired by Nature Dr. Fangyuan Tian is looking to nature in her research on new materials. One material could be used to create more safe and effective heart stents; another could filter greenhouse gases from landfills. From Oysters to Armadillos, Students Explore Science Our Biological Sciences Department conducts a wide variety of research throughout the year including projects designed to save our coastal wetlands, exploring the evolution of armored mammals, and discovering whether bees have an impact on native plant life. 2019 ABRCMS Awardees Six CSULB students earned awards for their presentations at the 2019 Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS). There were over 2,400 poster presentations given primarily by undergraduates from across the country.The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics is a national leader in integrating undergraduate research and education. Our faculty research informs student instruction and inquiry-based labs, develops student understanding of the scientific method, and creates student excellence in science and math learning. The College's mission is to educate the next diverse generation of scientists and mathematicians, as well as a science-literate citizenry, through inclusive teaching and research programs within the departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Geological Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics and Astronomy, Science Education, and the program of Environmental Science and Policy. Sidebar Second Guidance for Incoming StudentsTo help with the transition to our college at Cal State Long Beach, we have Guidance for Incoming Freshmen as well as Guidance for Incoming Transfers.
