At least two Black Live Matter protesters were arrested Friday evening during a BLM march at the Carson City Nevada State Capitol. Protesters were arrested following an issue with protesters walking in the bike lane. With help from the community of Carson City, Full Circle Compost received all sorts of green waste from residents in the first year of Waste Management’s green-waste recycling program. The Brewery Arts Center has a newly created mural on the Second Street wall done by an artist from the Nevada Artist Association Gallery, Diana Uzzell. Before COVID-19 hit the capital city, Trick or Treating had been changed to Friday, Oct. 30 since the Nevada Day Parade was falling on Oct. 31 this year. Despite the parade being cancelled, Trick or Treating is still going to be held Oct. 30 at this time, unless otherwise directed by Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak. The state’s Board of Wildlife Commissioners is currently seeking nominations for the 2020 Wayne E. Kirch Nevada Wildlife Conservation Award. Hello fellow anglers. Just got back from Oregon a few weeks ago and the world’s getting a little crazy. It's now fall, and it feels like we missed out on most of summer, between COVID-19 and wildfires, we might have to start doing some praying to get back to some sense of normalcy. We encountered 7 wildfires on our journey. Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS) is reporting six new cases and 17 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region. This brings the total number of cases to 1,278, with 1,163 recoveries and sixteen deaths, 99 cases remain active. The Friends of the Carson City Library and its Browsers Corner Book Store have been hit hard by the COVID-19 shutdown. While we have appreciated the support of our loyal fans, our business — like many others in our community — has been challenged with the fallout of the pandemic. A traffic accident was reported just before 3 p.m. Friday at Fairview and Carson Streets. Traffic is currently blocked by the two-vehicle crash within a construction zone, and one driver is complaining of neck pain. First responders are enroute. Motorists should seek alternate routes or use caution in the area. The senior spotlight is generally used to highlight seniors that have demonstrated high academic excellence, high motivation, strong leadership abilities, the desire for personal growth and many other positive qualities to highlight. A fundraiser for the Children’s Museum in Carson City will be held this upcoming Tuesday at Piazza Bar, to help with their funding shortage due to COVID-19. The cost is $39 per person, and 25 percent of all proceeds will go to the museum. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office regularly receives complaints of scams and fraudulent activity. This public nuisance and criminal empire provides a unique challenge. Local baseball and softball players are invited to participate in a free Cap City Baseball Hitting Clinic. Kristy Lynn Felkins, 36, of Fallon, Nevada, was indicted today for a murder-for-hire plot, U.S. Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced. A 31-year-old Silver springs man was arrested in the 3300 block of N. Carson Street for felony burglary and possession of burglary tools. Kristin N. Luis, Carson City Justice/Municipal Court Judge presided over the first jury trial during the COVID-19 pandemic on September 22nd and 23rd at the Carson City Courthouse. UPDATE 9:54 a.m.: Firefighters on scene determined that this was not a case of arson.***A possible structure fire was reported Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. in the 2200 block of Poole Way near Carmine and Sherman. According to dispatch, a woman lit a chair on fire inside of a residence, which then lit the floor on fire. Dispatch advised that an oxygen tank was present. Clean Up the Lake, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, has removed 8,183 pounds of trash from Donner Lake and Lake Tahoe. Beginning in July 2020, the Clean Up The Lake dive teams completed a circumnavigated SCUBA clean up of Donner Lake, covering every inch of the 8 mile shoreline at depths of 0-25 feet removing all the smaller trash they could find that resulted in 5,151.5 pounds of trash removed from Donner Lake compared to 3,032 pounds of trash removed from the depths of Lake Tahoe.
