Under each topic there is a description of the main aspects of the disease as well as frequently asked questions. Some topics have a PDF file easy to print. These are constantly being updated and new files are uploaded on a regular basis.Minimally Invasive SurgeryEvery time a doctor performs an operation he or she causes what is known as surgical trauma. This may be very minimal as is the case for a curettage of the uterine cavity or more extensive, for example in the case of open surgery (laparotomy) to remove ovarian cancer.Every time there is indication for an operation it's because the benefits from the procedure outweigh the negative aspect of surgical trauma.Minimally invasive surgery involves both doing traditional operations in ways that reduce the aggression to the body as well as performing new procedures which didn't exist before recent technological advances.One example of the former is doing a Hysterectomy through a laparoscopy (keyhole surgery) as opposed to doing an open cut. An example of the later is doing an Endometrial Ablation which consists of destroying the lining of the uterine cavity to reduce or eliminate excessive menstrual bleeding.By reducing surgical trauma through minimally invasive techniques we expect to achieve:Prompt and less painful recoveryQuicker return to work and daily activitiesReduced time spent in hospitalReduced long term consequencesThe least invasive option of all is to not have surgery in the first place.
