Attention!Each year, the MOSES Goodwill Committee awards over $20,000 in scholarships to help defray the educational expenses of our members and their families. One $1,500 and twenty-six $750 scholarships are distributed each year. This year, we held the scholarship drawing in the office on September 16th, 2020 and recorded it over Zoom.MOSES: Member since 2016.Sean is a part of the DPH team that is on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. A lot of his time now is focused on processing and testing patient samples. Due to COVID-19, the DPH operates in a fast-paced environment and the job within the lab changes on an hourly basis depending on the needs of the lab. He could be opening packages of samples one minute, loading extraction plates after that or running autoclaves and stocking supplies.MOSES: Member since 1984. Mike is part of the DEP team that protects the public health by performing over 15,000 lab analyses of contaminants in wastewater, air, soil, hazardous wastes and fish annually. In addition to ensuring clean air and water, MassDEP enforces environmental laws and is responsible for the timely cleanup of hazardous waste sites and spills.What: Industrial Safety Health InspectorWhere: Department of Labor StandardsMOSES: Member since 1999. Marvin is part of the OSHA On-Site Consultation Program, a free health safety consulting service provided to small, high-hazard businesses across the state. He explains, “I get enormous personal satisfaction from helping to ensure that workers go home every day, safe from injury or illness. Small employers rarely have the resources to develop health safety plans; our program provides that support to them.”Where: Massachusetts Department of Public HealthMOSES: Member since 2009. Erika is responsible for identifying potential bacterial viral threats to the citizens of Massachusetts. In a specialized environment she works to detect high suspect specimens that require rapid turnaround times and multi-agency responses.
