Read MoreNew SingersOur choral year begins in February however please feel free to contact us regarding joining the choir at any time.If you are interested in joining us, please contact Margaret Pride at mjpride@it.net.au or 0416 120 662.If you decide you would like to join us, we will give you the music for an audition piece and a few weeks to learn it.  The audition itself is a private, non-threatening affair with Margaret Pride. You sing the piece that you have been working on for the past few weeks. Margaret might ask you to sing a scale or two, perhaps clap some simple rhythms and that’s about it! You don’t have to sight sing, but it helps if you understand the music on the page.We practise each Thursday evening from 7:30pm to 10:00pm at All Saints Floreat Uniting Church,  48-50 Berkeley Cres, Floreat, WA. There is ample street parking around the site.Contact Us Perth Symphonic Chorus Director, Dr Margaret Pride OAM, studied choral music and conducting for five years in the United States, gaining her performance doctorate under Rodney Eichenberger at the prestigious University of Southern California. She is past national and state president of the Australian National Choral Association and was chief inaugurator of the National Youth Choir of Australia. Margaret also established Australia’s first performing Master’s Degree in choral music at the University of Western Australia. Each year, Margaret conducts over a dozen full choral concerts including several oratorios and cantatas, traditional unaccompanied sacred music and more specialised vocal chamber music. With the Collegium Symphonic Chorus, she has performed in a number of overseas cities including a tour in Canada in 2012.In 2000, Margaret was awarded a Centenary Medal in recognition of her services to choral music in Western Australia and in 2014 was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for Services to the Arts, in particular choral music.    Fiona Campbell (Mezzo-Soprano) The notable quality that sets Perth Symphonic Chorus apart is their passion for the music.  Both Chorus and Music Director s commitment to a performance is palpable and the results are thrilling for audience and participants alike. This combined effort of community and professional music making is a beacon, and should be supported at every opportunity. Sara Macliver (Soprano) Perth Symphonic Chorus is a group of hard-working, disciplined and enthusiastic choristers who sing with all the emotional integrity and technical accuracy that makes a great choir. Working alongside them is both a great honour and pleasure. Christopher Saunders (Tenor) The Perth Symphonic Chorus is undoubtedly one of the best choirs I have worked with.  The professionalism and attention to detail in their singing is second to none. Add to this a genuine openness and friendly atmosphere and you have a choir of unique quality. From the Brahms German Requiem 2017:I was amazed by the excellence of everyone on stage. My mother who knew no english or german wept.It was breathtaking. At first it felt like a long winding road ahead but now I feel it was a worthy journey to experience. My wife thought it was nearly perfect.I felt very privileged to be part of a performance that gave so much joy and scaled the musical heights, my gratitude for being part of the group and admiration of the other performers on stage. My husband was reluctant to come but was elated by the performance.A young friend of the family came to a choral concert for the first time and thought it was absolutely wonderful, saying it was beyond anything else she d experienced before.I will never forget this performance in my life. From the Anzac Commemoration 2015 Concert:Margaret I wanted to thank you and the choir and all who participated in the most beautiful evening of April 24th at the Redemptorist s Monastery. The Government House Ballroom Anzac concert was exceptional. A triumph! You do so very well. I thought the choir performed to a particularly high standard and that the tenors were very good. I ve seen and been involved in small group and larger group performances in Aberdeen and in London and Margaret you have the choir performing to a high standard, by international measures.John MoretonI have always felt somewhat removed from Anzac Day. However that changed during your performance. The exquisite music, thoughtfully chosen words (so powerfully orated) and venue, all held in your hands evoked such strong emotion and reflection. Please pass on my congratulations to all.Katie BrownWe loved the Mozart Requiem. The actor in WW1 Battle dress read texts from WW1 poems and letters in a most moving way. A lady friend said she had run out of tissues 3/4 of the way through and was about to have to start on her scarf! A superb Last Post Reveille on the trumpet and a tear-jerking unaccompanied “Danny Boy” from the choir to finish. A very long concert, but deeply satisfying.Rob KayBouquets to Dr Pride, the choir and all the musicians who delighted your audience at Government House Ballroom yesterday. Mozart s Requiem was superb, the Lacrimosa the best we ve ever heard, and we all felt the energy in the Dies irae and Confutatis. A wonderful concert.Alison RobinsMessiah 2014:We were truly blown away by your Messiah performance. As you can imagine, we have heard many versions of this work in our lifetimes, but we have to say your insightfully nuanced interpretation, Margaret, the amazing solo work and the fantastic sound of the choir was truly magnificent. Bravo to all who worked on this stellar performance.Kemp and Chris Segerhammar, San Francisco. What a wonderful rendition of Messiah tonight! I didn t expect anything to top last year s, but tonight s was quite extraordinary.Last year, from my perspective, the performance was crisp and light and delightfully joyous. Tonight s was precise and tight and unspeakably beautiful. It portrayed the tenderness, power and poignancy of the piece in a unique way. It was not so much that it was less joyous than last year, it was more comprehensive of the human experience and as a consequence quite in resonance with the events of a broken world reaching for an Amen to its deepest hopes. It seemed to me that tonight took more out of you than last year. To that I say little wonder , for tonight you drew from Chorus, orchestra and soloists something quite transcendent. You also reached into the depths entering the catharsis of the libretto and those Scripture texts springing from the hopes of a broken humanity thousands of years ago. Tonight s performance was therefore timeless as it brought Isaiah into the concert hall with us. Tonight Handel s wonderful score bowed to the text and became its tender handmaiden. I have never experienced Messiah done like that before. Truly, it was wonderful. I know you really enjoyed last year s. Tonight I suspect you were were exhausted.A big thanks for once again unveiling life s beauty even when it meant entering into its poignancy.Father Edmond NixonLorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.
