Click Here Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) provide a proven set of strategies for advancing transportation safety, mobility, and environmental sustainability by integrating communication and information technology applications into the management and operation of the transportation system across all modes. This website presents summaries on the benefits, costs, deployment levels, and lessons learned for ITS deployment and operations from over 20 years of ITS evaluation studies, research syntheses, handbooks, journal articles, and conference papers tracking the effectiveness of deployed ITS. Browse Resource Databases Benefits measure the effects of ITS on transportation operations according to the six goals identified by the U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT): safety, mobility, efficiency, productivity, energy and environmental impacts, and customer satisfaction. The Costs database is a national resource of cost estimates for ITS deployments. Use Costs to develop project cost estimates during the planning or preliminary design phase, and for policy studies and cost-benefit analyses. Both capital and operating and maintenance costs are provided where possible. BROWSE LESSONS LEARNEDLessons Learned capture the real life experience of practitioners in their planning, deployment, operations, maintenance, and evaluation of ITS. It is a reflection on what was done right, what one would do differently, and how one could be more effective in the future.
