Children's Home NetworkProviding Services and programs throughout Central FloridaAt the Children's Home Network, we unlock the potential of at-risk children and families by providing compassionate and effective services that create opportunities for success.A Message from our CEO These are certainly trying times for all of us. We are all struggling with finding ways to maintain day-to-day normalcy with our families, friends and our way of life, in the safest manner possible. At the Children’s Home Network, we have been challenged to find a way to safely provide services to the children and families that we serve, while protecting both our staff and individuals needing our help. And, we are particularly challenged to continue to care for the 60 infants, children, teens and expectant teen mothers living on campus, in Kids Village and Adolescents in Motherhood, given the local risk the current environment suggests. I am pleased to share with you that our amazing team and partner agencies have identified alternative ways to still provide critical services to the thousands of families in need. Here are some of the steps we are currently taking: • In-home visits: All in-home visiting staff are shifting to a work-from-home status, to ensure that the necessary equipment and technology is available to serve children and families through remote methods. • High-risk children in our community: Children who are considered high-risk are still being treated face-to-face, but outdoors, to maintain proper social distancing. This process appears to be going well and is ensuring that our mission continues while adhering to official mandates handed down by the City. • Residential services: In addition to maintaining safety for everyone on campus, we are also working diligently to ensure proper sanitation throughout each day. Since local schools are closed for attendance through the school year, we are doing our best to create meaningful activities that honor safe practices, while maintaining school progress and preventing boredom. Fortunately, we have the Pulte Promise Center and the Thomas Alexander Learning Building onsite, which foster daily learning activities for the children residing in Kids Village and Adolescents in Motherhood.• Our dedicated team continues to be committed to the well-being of the children in our care. We have offered financial incentives for the residential staff that do not have the option of working from home. This is a well-deserved token of our appreciation and acknowledgement of the current circumstances. During this time of uncertainty, at-risk children need our help. The Children's Home Network's donors, and friends have been extremely generous over our 128-year history of caring for abused, neglected and abandoned children, and we ask for your continued support. Rickus, MS, LMHCPresident/CEOMeet HannaHanna is a 13-year-old girl who has lived at Kids Village for over a year, and her prior life experiences included chronic neglect and family trauma, including sexual violence and homelessness. Hanna desperately wanted to trust and connect with others, but she behaved like a much younger child and was unable to develop friendships with her peers. Additionally, and although she was a bright girl, Hanna was far behind in school as her attendance had been sporadic at best when she resided with her family. Hanna was very self-conscious and unsure of herself because of her struggles. When first arriving at the Children’s Home Network, Hanna struggled to understand her life experiences and how they influenced her behaviors and relationships. Additionally, Hanna was beginning to experience life as a young adolescent, learning how to care for herself through improved hygiene and eating habits. Eager to please, Hanna responded quickly to the care, direction and therapeutic support provided at CHN. Hanna’s confidence and social skills needed further development and the CHN team encouraged her to explore sports. Hanna joined a local soccer team where her energy and love for the game were quickly realized. Hanna loves running the field playing defense or as the team’s goalie and has become an integral member of her team. CHN caregivers attend every game that Hanna plays, not only to cheer her and her team on, but to witness her amazing transformation into a confident and secure young lady.
