Welcome to the Mourne Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Welcome to Mournelive.com, celebrating the outstanding landscape of the Mourne Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and showcasing the work of Mourne Heritage Trust in protecting and enhancing this special place. Situated in the south east corner of Northern Ireland where the mountains sweep down to the sea , the AONB stretches across 57,000 hectares around the range of closely grouped mountains that provide its name. It also includes the more ancient, craggy uplands of Slieve Croob, with wonderful views north to Belfast and beyond, along with lakes and reservoirs, rolling drumlins and farmland. Beaches, sand dunes and rocky coves touch the Irish Sea. The About section has more about the AONB designation and the work we do to care for it. Actions range from path construction to storytelling and from the history of granite quarrying to the prized upland heath habitat.
