An understanding of such processes allows our students, faculty and staff to develop theories, concepts and discoveries into practical applications. We hold high standards of performance, and our graduates are admitted to positions of responsibility, and to noted graduate and professional schools throughout the state, nation and world.Each program of study is interdisciplinary, providing classroom, field and laboratory experiences necessary for careers in academics, health care, industry and government, business, law, and public policy. A dedicated faculty and staff using excellent, modern facilities help the students achieve their goals. The four programs in the Department of Life Sciences offer six degrees (two undergraduate and four graduate) ranging from baccalaureate to doctoral:The Biology Program offers the Bachelor of Science in Biology and the Master of Science in Biology.The Biomedical Sciences Program offers the Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences in either the Forensic Science or Pre-Professional options.The Clinical Laboratory Science Program the Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science.The Fisheries and Mariculture Program offers the Master of Science in Fisheries and Mariculture.The Marine Biology Program offers the Master of Science in Marine Biology and the Doctor of Philosophy in Marine Biology.In courses and in research, students in the Department of Life Sciences meet high standards of performance. Each program of study is interdisciplinary and requires course work from other programs and departments. Likewise, the courses offered through the Department of Life Sciences attract students majoring in other programs, departments and colleges. Discovery and the expansion of the knowledge base from the molecular/biochemical to the organismal levels provide opportunities in health care, industry and government. Over time, interactions of organisms with each other and with their physical environment produce changes in both the organisms and the environment.
