Waipukurau man Devon Ashley Bird, 21, appeared in Napier District Court this morning for sentencing after pleading guilty to ill-treating a child and causing grievous bodily harm with reckless disregard last month.

A high-risk Timaru paedophile who recorded himself raping three young girls has been sentenced to 18 years in jail.

Phillip Brendon Page, 36, was sentenced in the High Court at Timaru today on 26 child sex charges by Justice Rachel Dunningham, who imposed a minimum non-parole period of 10 years.

The 26 charges Page had admitted included five of sexual violation by rape, six of sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection, 11 of doing an indecent act on a child, two of doing an indecent act on a young person, and two of doing an indecent act with intent to insult or offend.

When he pleaded guilty in the High Court at Christchurch last year, the Crown said the offending involved four girls and two boys and took place over several years.

Godfrey Ball

Godfrey (aka Geoffrey) Ball, 78, of Masterton, a retired school bus driver who was facing 12 representative sex charges against boys aged 7 to 16, was found dead in his Waterhouse St home on Thursday by neighbours whom the Times-Age understands were supporting him. The alleged offending took place in Wellington between 1964 and 1985 and related to sexual assault and sodomy.

An 18-year-old man has admitted indecently assaulting a 12-year-old girl, but denies sexually grooming her in an online chatroom.

In Masterton District Court this morning, Kayne Storm McIntyre pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting the girl after allegedly driving from Rotorua to a Wairarapa home and picking her up.

An Auckland man who jammed his fingers into his daughters throat causing her to almost drown in her own blood has been jailed.

The 27-year-old man whose name is suppressed to protect the identity of his child was found guilty at trial of wounding with reckless disregard and injuring with reckless disregard.

The charges came from an incident in February last year when the man and his partner were woken up by their 27-day-old baby crying.

The girls mother picked up the baby and brought her and a bottle into the bedroom where the offender lay in bed.

She left her daughter to be fed by her partner but when she returned shortly afterwards there was blood streaming from the girls mouth.

Four children all under 7 left home alone on Saturday night were found scared and crying when police went into a Whangarei house.

A 24-year-old Raumanga woman faces four charges of neglecting a child under the age of 18 and will appear in Whangarei District Court today.

Taite Hemi Kupa, 57, has been found guilty in the High Court at Whangarei on 21 of 23 charges relating to sexual and physical abuse of vulnerable children in his care.

Kupa had admitted kicking children and pinching their ears to humiliate and discipline them. Others were raped and sodomised, the court heard.

First, some background about me to give this post context. I am an atheist, though was raised as a catholic. I have two children who attend primary school, aged five and eight. I separated from my wife about 18 months ago, one of the many reasons for this being her increasingly fanatical fixation with her religion.

OK. Recently, to my complete surprise I discovered my childrens (supposedly secular) primary school was hosting religious instruction classes during school hours, with attendance by all students mandatory unless opted out.

I had no knowledge of the classes for two reasons, one all communications from the school are addressed to my wife, who does not pass any of it to me unless it involves paying money to the school, and two there is no mention of the school holding religious instruction classes either in their charter, on their website, or in any of their newsletters.

Apparantly the only notification parents receive from the school regarding religious instruction classes is a form sent home with the children at the start of the school year, which the parents can fill in if they wish to opt their children out of the classes. Naturally my wife did not see fit to pass this information on to me, I only found out about it when my 8-year-old mentioned it in passing.

Let me be clear that the classes are not for the purpose of education, where children are taught about various religions as part of a wider social studies lesson, rather the classes are pure evangalism from untrained religious volunteers, who indoctrinate the children with christian myths as if they are fact.

When I asked my wife about it she pretended to be surprised that I didnt know, and being a religious nut asked what the harm was in the children attending the classes as they are fun, involving singing, story telling, drawing and watching videos.

My reasoning was that the children are much too young and gullible to be taught religious myths as fact in a school setting, and the time would be better spent learning reading, writing, or maths etc. It all fell on deaf ears. My wifes counter arguement was that the children should be taught religion so they can decide for themselves what to believe, and she refused to be swayed from that belief (pun intended).

With that kind of thinking you can probably tell my wife is not the smartest person in the world, and the more religious she becomes, the more irrational and stubborn she becomes.

It disturbs me greatly to see my children also becoming like this, they are both intelligent and inquisitive and love anything to do with science and nature. The times I have brought up the subject of religion and tried to explain that not everyone believes in the same god(s), or in fact any god(s), and what their mother believes is not necessarily true, they screw up their faces as if they are hearing an unpleasant sound.

Im a pretty easy-going father, I try to parent by example and earn my childrens repect rather than brow-beat them into submission and demand repect and unquestioning obediance, so have decided to leave pretty much alone. I have bought many childrens books and videos on science and evolution etc, which my children enjoy reading and watching.

Hopefully when they are older they will come to see religion for what it is, and make the right decision about what they believe. After all, if I could do it then so can they, since they are much smarter than I was at their age. I was about 14 when I decided once and for all that religion was bullshit and not to waste any more of my life believing in rubbish.

In conclusion after a bit of goolging I discovered the Secular Education Network group on facebook, followed some links and read up on what my rights as a parent are regarding religious instruction in schools. Turns out all thats required to opt my children out of the classes is a letter to the school principal, which I duly sent and have since received a reply confirming they will no longer attend the classes.

Each school differs on how they deal with the opted out children. My childrens school has them go to the library, where they read under supervision, which is fine with me. I have heard stories of other schools where the opted out children are made to sit at the back of the classroom or hall, facing the back wall! Yep they are being punished, pure and simple because their parents choose not to have them brainwashed with childish fairytales.

The parents of a seven-year-old girl are backing a decision for her to live as a boy and to medically stop puberty.

In as little as two years the child, whom the Sunday Star-Times has chosen not to identify, could start a course of drugs dubbed puberty blockers.

This is the first step toward hormone replacement treatment and possible surgery.

It would mean the child, whose story is being told today  with the support of his family, will never fully develop a womans body and its natural functions.

However, if the injections, which are given once every three months, are stopped, the body would continue its normal development.

If he reaches 11, 12 or 13 and decides its not what he wants, then he stops blockers and hell go through puberty as a woman, said the childs mother.

Comment:

This story is heartbreaking and tragic. In progressive P.C. la la land, a childs every (progressive aligned) whim must be encouraged and indulged, even if harmful to the child.

The parents in this article have failed competely in their duty to guide their childs gradual development into a happy, well adjusted, functioning, contributing member of society. Instead, the child will likely grow up totally self absorbed, unhappy, and confused.

Statistically there is a high incidence of substance abuse, mental health issues, prostitution, and self harm/suicide among people who have undergone sex change treatments.

All of this could easily be avoided with some sensible, firm, and positive parenting.

Cherie Denese Nagle, 48, pled guilty to manslaughter after her 11-day-old baby boy (Reef Rippa Stone) died of extreme dehydration and severe meningitis.

Nagle walked free after Justice Joe Williams ruled that the babys death was not due to a lack of care or love but a lack of understanding of the babys gradually worsening condition.

My guess is the mother follows some kind of alternative religious or homeopathic lifestyle and shuns modern medicine, given that the baby and her other children were all born at home with no medical assistance.

In New Zealand where medical care is free for children, no baby should ever die due to a lack of medical care. The mother and her willful ignorance are 100% to blame for this needless death.

Johann Daubeck, 19, has been found guilty of rape of a child under 12. Daubeck was sentenced to seven years in prison with a minimum period of imprisonment of four years.

His girlfriend, who filmed the rape, was sentenced to two years intensive supervision and 200 hours community work for six charges, including uploading the images to the internet.

Wayne William Smith, 55, was last month found guilty on three charges of sexual violation and six of engaging in sexual conduct with a young person. He was acquitted on four other sexual conduct charges. Full article here.

As is common with sexual predators, he attempts but fails to shift the blame away from himself and onto the victim. His narcissim probably lead him to believe the jury would be as gullible as his unfortunate young victim.

A three-week-old baby girl from Invercargill is in Starship hospital in an induced coma. It has been reported that the mother slashed the babys throat. The baby girl has been identified as Noklair Milton, the only child of parents David and Sucharitta Milton, of Princes St, Invercargill.
