Wow, what a storm. Last weekend, in a 48-hour period, we received 38inches of snow at Vail Mountain, which ranks as a Top 5 snowfall event in our58-year history. We know that no one wants to miss powder like that – so we gotstraight to work. We had a lot on the line. Digging out from thatkind of snowfall to get our mountain open and safe for guests requires aherculean effort by ski patrol, lift operations, groomers and the entire VailMountain staff. I want to express my deepest appreciation for their hard work. We were fully staffed –it was truly an all-hands-on-deck scenario – and we spared no expense to getthe mountain open as quickly as possible. In fact, our patrol team used arecord number of explosives in their thorough avalanche mitigation. But safetyalways comes first – and to ensure terrain is absolutely safe for guests andemployees, it takes time. I want to thank ourguests for their patience this weekend and apologize for any experience thatwas less than ideal. I’d also like to use this opportunity to acknowledge andprovide context around two particularly striking lift lines that people saw onsocial media. Vail Fires Up Snowmaking as Mother Nature Delivers up to 9 Inches of Snow Across Colorado Oct. 24, 2019VAIL, Colo. – Oct. 24, 2019 – Ski season is underway in Colorado, and guests and Epic Pass holders have a lot to look forward to as more resorts are getting ready to open in the coming weeks.  With Mother Nature providing chilly temperatures and up to 6 inches of snow across Colorado resorts overnight, Vail has fired up its new state-of-the-art snowmaking system for the first time this season, in preparation for Opening Day on Nov. 15. For those itching to hit the slopes now, Keystone is open and announced yesterday plans to expand terrain and open North Peak on Friday, providing guests more than 80 acres of skiable terrain this weekend. In addition, Breckenridge is scheduled to open next on Friday, Nov, 8, followed by Vail on Friday, Nov. 15, and then Beaver Creek and Crested Butte on Wednesday, Nov. 27. Mother Nature has provided generous October snowfall, resort snowmakers andupgraded snowmaking technology are the real heroes when it comes to earlyseason skiing and riding. Vail has been hard at work this year with anambitious snowmaking expansion project—the largest in Vail Mountain’s historyand the largest single-year project in North America. The upgrade adds nearly200 acres of new and enhanced snowmaking terrain, in addition to the existing431 acres of snowmaking terrain, transforming the opening day and early seasonexperience at Vail. This season opening day terrain will be accessed via VailVillage and Gondola One, and guests will have earlier access to higherelevation terrain, a broader variety of trails, earlier access from all threebase areas, and improved early season ski school terrain. Epic Passes are on salenow for a limited time only, and now is the last chance for skiers and ridersto secure the best multi-resort pass deal in the ski industry. New for the2019-20 season, Vail Resorts launched the Epic Day Pass allowing guests to skiworld-class resorts for up to 50 percent off of lift ticket window prices.Starting at as little as $112 for one day of skiing at any of Vail Resorts’North American resorts, the Epic Day Pass is perfect for those skiers andriders who may not need the unlimited skiing offered by traditional seasonpasses.
