Description:

Grantmakers In Health is a nonprofit, educational organization dedicated to helping foundations and corporate giving programs improve the health of all people. GIH is compiling resources, tools, and updates for funders on the spread and impact of COVID-19. As we head into Fall, let us take a moment to rest, recharge, and to care for one another so that we are prepared to meet the challenges ahead. Let us also remain hopeful, knowing that together we can accomplish anything. We are heartbroken and outraged by recent and continuing acts of racism and violence against Black communities and communities of color, and we stand with all who are demanding justice for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Christian Cooper, Ahmaud Arbery, and other victims of racism and violence. This survey provides valuable insights into the broader field of palliative care and serious illness philanthropy, including how and where funders are directing their resources, the strategies they employ, and the interventions they are interested in. The pandemic has blatantly exposed the longstanding inequities in America due to institutional and systemic racism that people of color have experienced for far too long. It has brought tolight the need to urgently rethink and reorient our role in reimaging the affordable housingsector — one that brings health in reach for all. According to Feeding America, one in ten people and one in six children face hunger in our state (Feeding America 2020). As a foundation focused on the social and economic barriers to health, food insecurity has always been important to us In 2016, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation, Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, and John A. Hartford Foundation envisioned a national program to support advanced practice nurse faculty members to create sustained and vibrant academic-community partnerships with the goal of improving population health in their own communities and zip codes. The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed and exacerbated existing disparities in vulnerable rural communities, which place the 46 million Americans in rural geographies in a particularly precarious situation. In the spring of 2020, Grantmakers In Health reached out to several funders engaged in this work to better understand their perspectives on rural response and recovery and to share those examples with the broader field to assist funders as they determine future needs and strategies in rural areas. As the novel coronavirus races across the globe, health funders are urgently preparing for and responding to COVID-19 in the communities they serve. While past public health crises inform COVID-19 response, there is no proven playbook for how health philanthropy should respond to this rapidly evolving threat. The opioid epidemic remains a critical public health crisis that necessitates philanthropic attention. Philanthropy is uniquely suited to respond to immediate challenges while also supporting broader systems change. Join this webinar for an overview of strategies for reaching the newly uninsured and a discussion of potential solutions for the outreach challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Efforts to reduce reliance on the criminal justice system and instead increase access to community-based harm reduction, mental health, and substance use services are underway across the country. Join this webinar to hear about federal, state, and local efforts to strengthen social safety nets and expand access to effective overdose prevention and harm reduction interventions. This webinar will highlight key recommendations from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine report, “Integrating Social Care into the Delivery of Health Care: Moving Upstream to Improve the Nation’s Health.” Connect and collaborate with peers, learn about opportunities to develop your staff, browse professional growth opportunities, and more. The New York State Health Foundation (NYSHealth) seeks a Policy Researcher to monitor and analyze health policy issues in New York State. The Health Care program’s long-term goal is to drive improvements in health status and reductions in health disparities. The program’s three strategies are outlined below: Expand access for vulnerable populations to reduce health disparities and promote health equity by supporting access to essential services and resources. Promote healthy lifestyles to support population health by advancing Evaluation Assistant will provide administrative and evaluation support to the Evaluation Department. Virginia philanthropy is poised to reach an unprecedented level of effectiveness. In recent years, new leaders have brought energy, wisdom and courage to their work. They have begun working together, exhibiting unparalleled levels of collaboration, shared work and learning. Today is the perfect time to launch the Virginia Funders Network (VFN) to broaden and capitalize on these early successes, with a goal of achieving improved outcomes in areas such as education, health, poverty, housing and social justice. GIH seeks a dynamic professional who is eager to share knowledge and information with a variety of stakeholders, ranging from foundation staff and trustees to policymakers, health practitioners, and researchers. We’re looking for a superstar to support the efforts of multiple Program Directors in the administration and logistics of their various programs, events, and projects. GIH Funding Partners are a diverse constituency of approximately 240 informed, connected philanthropic organizations.
