Kayaking Situated in the calm protected waters of the Georgia Strait between the mainland and Vancouver Island, Hornby is an excellent place to experience ocean kayaking. Depending on the time of year, you will see eagles, seals, sea lions, whales, interesting intertidal life and diverse bird species. Hornby Recreation Hornby Recreation is a committee of the Hornby Island Residents’ and Rate Payers’ Association. Hornby Recreation’s mandate is to provide recreation programs for all members of the community and visitors all year round and to promote a healthy way of being in which physical activity is a valued and integrated way of everyday life. Mountain Biking The mountain giving Hornby Island its iconic shape also contains some the best biking trails in BC. From slick single-track to cliff-side trails with an ocean view, there are trails to suit every level of rider. Hornby Island Natural History Centre Natural History Centre is home to a wide ranging exhibit focusing on the animals, plants, and geology of Hornby Island. See our beautiful collection of local birds and our exhibit of fossils found on Hornby such as the backbones of a mosasaur. Island Stars Island Stars is an astronomical observatory open to the public for stargazing.
