Linha-Hoeven Gallery

October 12, 2022 through November 11, 2022

The Taube Museum of Art will be exhibiting mixed media assemblages by Doug Pfliger in the Linha Gallery, and selected works from the Taube Museum's permanent collection in the Langer Gallery. These exhibitions will be on display at the Taube Museum of Art from October 12th - November 11th, 2022. There will be a reception for Tablets for Modern Man on October 27th from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Taube Museum of Art. Drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be served. This event is free and open to the public.

Doug Pfliger currently resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His first visit to the City Different was Christmas of 1984. At that time, he was walking around the plaza and tossed his hat up in the air Mary Tyler Moore style and announced he would live there one day. It took him a few years, but in in 2018 it became reality. In March of 2020, the Pandemic locked down the state. Pfliger found the isolation conducive to art making, and he expereinced a sort of art Renaissance. The isolation allowed him to bring to fruition a number of series that had been simple notes, reference images, and thumbnail sketches incubating for months or in some cases years in various sketchbooks before seeing the light of day. Pfliger fully retired in 2021 and has been managing to keep the Renaissance going with almost daily studio immersion.

"The first two pieces in the Tablets for Modern Man series were produced in 2012. I exhibited one of those pieces and traded the other to a friend for design services in 2014. The skateboard shape struck me as a modern conveyance of the marble tablets that the Ten Commandments were supposedly carved on. Rather than carving I chose to execute them in painted and collaged elements.
I sat on the concept until around the time of the pandemic shut down in 2020. I had several skateboard blanks on hand, as I had moved those with me to New Mexico in 2018. I dug those out and used the lockdown isolation to re-explore the series theme." -Doug Pfliger

Dr. Andrea E. Donovan Library to Open at Taube Museum of Art

The Taube Museum of Art has received a donation over 1200 books from Dr. Andrea Donovan. As an art history and humanities professor, traveler, and artist, Dr. Donovan amassed a beautiful collection of books including subjects of art history, architecture, poetry, history, and more. The Taube Museum of Art is beyond grateful to have received this donation, and would like to thank Dr. Donovan’s husband, Jim Bailey, for facilitating the donation after Dr. Donovan’s passing. We are so grateful to be able to care for this collection and make it available to the public.

“As the daughter of an art professor and designer and the granddaughter of a painter and a concert violinist, Andrea Donovan has been around the arts her entire life. She was born in Detroit, Michigan and went to Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. For many years, she lived, worked, and painted in Phoenix, Arizona. Three degrees later and after years of teaching and painting experience, she began teaching History and Humanities at Minot State University. Her degrees included work in painting, design, art education, art history, architectural history and historic preservation, European history, and cultural studies.”

Dr. Donovan’s book collection exemplifies her life. She was well read, traveled often, and collected many things. The Taube is honored to have a piece of her history in our collection.

The Dr. Andrea E. Donovan Library is set to be available to the public in January 2023.

Lovely ambiance...in a historic building in downtown Minot, ND!

~ Nancy Walter

We recently had the pleasure of using Taube Museum of Art as our wedding venue. It was absolutely perfect. The crew at the Taube was honestly beyond accommodating. They were so willing to work with us at every turn along the way. Our day was made that much more special because of the beautiful, unique, ‘cool’ vibe lent to it by the Taube! I wouldn’t change a thing. I will continue to use Taube Museum of Art for special events to come, and recommend it to many others!

Pop Your Pet was a great session. The staff helped my son make it a great experience overall! He's found a new hobby thanks to all of their help. This is something we can do together now.
