THREE WAYS WE SUPPORT MENTORSHIP AND MAKING

Makers + Mentors Network, a STEM initiative of Citizen Schools, partners with communities and organizations to uplift STEM mentoring and maker-centered learning as essential tools to build a stronger, more diverse workforce. Recognizing that unlike talent, opportunity and access are not equally distributed, we focus on underserved and underrepresented students, including girls, students of color and youth from low-income communities. Makers + Mentors Network advances its mission through three primary models: a National Community of Practice, Make For All, and AmeriCorps Maker Fellows.

OUR NETWORK

Makers + Mentors Network is comprised of:

26 Community of Practice members, whose coalitions are national proof points of impact and represent over 300 different organizations, schools, and companies

40 commitment makers devoted to growing their maker-specific goals in 2021 and beyond

26 AmeriCorps Maker Fellows building capacity for leading institutions across the country

OUR IMPACT

Over the past six years, Makers + Mentors Network has implemented a diverse range of strategies to create high impact change. Launching in 2014 with seven Community of Practice members, Makers + Mentors has steadily grown to serve 26 communities. In 2020-21, those 26 cross-sectoral coalitions served 35,000 students through STEM mentoring and maker-centered learning interventions. Those community members have consistently ranked their experience with Makers + Mentors as “Excellent” based on the world standard Net Promoter Score®.

Makers + Mentors Network has partnered with the Corporation for National and Community Service since 2014 to place over 111 AmeriCorps VISTA members within the Community of Practice and internally. These national service members have provided crucial capacity-building support to nonprofits, serving some of the nation’s most under-resourced and impoverished communities.
