Welcome to Horns Aloud'swebsite

HornsAloud, formed in 2002 fromgraduates of Trinity College of Music, are a prize-winning HornQuartet who perform a unique blend of chamber music around thecountry. The group has evolved with the founder members John Davy,Jamie Thomas and Marc Woodhurst joined in 2005 by Jocelyn Lightfootand the ensemble’s success continuing to grow as the quartetexplored new repertoire and audiences.

Recently, the quartet have performed in concerts and festivalsabroad. A sell-out concert in Turin’s Palazza Madama in 2010was followed by performances in the glorious alpine scenery of the2011 I Suoni delle Dolomiti festival and record crowds forColourscape’s visit to Turku in Finland, all events givenwith and organized by Martin Mayes, a Turin-based horn-player andmusician. In 2012, the ensemble will be appearing in threeperformances of the new commission Fire by David Bruce, given aspart of the Salisbury and Spitalfields festivals and delivered byPRS for Music Foundation in partnership with the BBC, LOCOG, Sound& Music and NMC Recordings.

During 2008, Horns Aloud were selected to perform by the Park LaneGroup at the close of their Young Artists’ Series at theSouth Bank in London and also performed at the Colourscape Festivalon Clapham Common in September, along with more recent Christmasconcerts.
2009 was an even more eventful year, with the groupappearing at the foyer of the Royal Festival Hall, and announcingthe world premiere of a new work for the group by Cecilia McDowallat the British Horn Society Annual Festival.

The group has also given three performances as soloists ofSchumann’s virtuoso Konzertstück and performedTippett’s Sonata for four Horns as part of the 2005 St.Endellion Festival. Horns Aloud give concerts, recitals andworkshops at venues across England to audiences of widely varyingage and taste and the group’s repertoire is correspondinglybroad. Expect anything from Bach to Bizet, Purcell to Tippett, witha little light Gershwin or Flanders & Swann thrown in amongstrousing horn calls and sultry slow movements.
