About Us

The SWDM Alliance is a collection of companies who believe that the adoption of shortwave wavelength division multiplexing (SWDM) is a cost-effective means of transmitting multiple channels on one duplex multimode fiber pair. The goal of the organization is to create and promote an industry ecosystem that fosters the adoption of SWDM for cost-effective data center interconnections over duplex multimode fiber at data rates at or above 40 Gbps. Alliance Members

The founding members of the SWDM Alliance are Commscope, Corning, Dell, H3C, Huawei, II-VI, Juniper, Lumentum, and OFS.

Multisource Agreement

Several of the transceiver and fiber suppliers in the SWDM Alliance have formed an SWDM MSA to establish a mutivendor SWDM ecosystem.

About SWDM Technology

Shortwave data center connections are usually powered by VCSELs operating near a wavelength of 850 nm. Shortwave wavelength division multiplexing (SWDM) is a technology that uses multiple VCSELs at different wavelengths around that 850 nm region to generate individual data streams, all multiplexed onto a single fiber pair.
