2. Get Free Yard and Street Trees – Act Fast! Deadline March 3rd at Noon.

The Overlook Neighborhood Association wants to help our residents make Overlook cooler, safer, and greener by planting more trees! To help with this mission, we have two opportunities for Overlook residents to get free trees…

Yard Trees:
The Arbor Lodge Tree Team, in partnership with Urban Forestry, is giving away large form trees on Saturday, March 5th. There are about 60 trees available and Arbor Lodge has generously included other neighborhoods in the giveaway.

If you are interested in getting a large form tree for your yard, please reserve one at this link:
https://bit.ly/33wH9rg

What is a large form tree? One that reaches 50-80′ tall at maturityWhere can I plant them? Only in your yard, these are too big for your parking strip.Do they need full sun? Yes!What trees can I choose from? See the link provided. What day will you be distributing them? Saturday, March 5th, between 11-1Where? Arbor Lodge Park, the SE corner near Dekum and Delaware
Are they really FREE? Yes! And not only do you get free trees, but Arborists will be on hand to answer questions, and you will get a watering bucket and mulch for planting too.

Street Trees:
Are you interested in a free street tree? The Overlook Neighborhood Association is offering to pay for street trees for ~10 Overlook residents to help increase our neighborhood tree canopy. You must act fast but if you get an approved permit and are ready to plant your tree by the end of April, OKNA will reimburse you for your tree.

Steps you will need to take:

Contact the Overlook Sustainability team (sustainability@overlookneighborhood.org) to get started! You will need to work with the Sustainability Committee throughout the process.Apply for permits through the city (takes a minimum of 3 weeks): https://www.portland.gov/trees/treepermits/planting-permits/planting-permit-faqsSelect a tree from the Approved Street Tree List for your planting spotPurchase your trees. Here are a few nurseries to explore.Plant trees by the end of April.Water your tree to make sure it thrives and enjoy!

3. TriMet: Redoing our district map

After each new federal census, TriMet must reassess the boundaries of the seven districts that make up our service area. This is required by the Oregon Secretary of State to balance those districts by population. A TriMet Board member appointed by Oregon’s Governor lives in and represents each district.

Learn More and Provide Feedback:
https://trimet.org/board/redistricting

4. OKNA Seeks Volunteers and Board Members

The OKNA Board is seeking two members to join the board. Those with an interest to chair homelessness, community clean-up projects, or interest in our local school programs are encouraged to attend our March 1st meeting to learn more about opportunities to volunteer on the board. If you can’t attend please reach Stacey Nuissl the OKNA Chair to learn more.

5. TriMet: Moving forward together on better bus service

As the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way people travel, TriMet is taking this opportunity to reevaluate bus services. They want to hear from you! Questions about service, safety, and civil rights are included in an expanded version of their Title VI survey, which is conducted every three years.
