Grand Opening

Northeastern PK-12 Building

Congratulations to Northeastern Local Schools on the opening of their new Northeastern PK-12 building! On August 20, the District held a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony for the new 175,856 square-foot facility and made its debut to the community. Shook Touchstone will continue to work with the District as the CM at Risk on the Kenton Ridge PK-12 building, which is slated to open for the 2023-2024 school year.

“I want to thank all of the voters in our community who supported the vision of these two new campuses. The opportunities in the new Northeastern building are endless for our kids to grow and we are excited to take this positive momentum and continue progressing forward as a district.” – Dr. John Kronour, NELSD Superintendent

Dayton Builders Exchange Showcase Award Winner

Dayton Phoenix Group Disaster Recovery

Shook is honored to have received the prestigious Builders Exchange of Dayton (DBX) Showcase Award along with our client and trusted friends at the Dayton Phoenix Group (DPG) for our work to restore their 630,000 SF manufacturing facility. In 2019, DPG took a direct hit from the Memorial Day tornadoes, leaving the facility in shambles. DPG quickly made the decision to rebuild in Dayton and Shook was on site within hours after the tornado to assist with the effort. In the words of the DBX press release, “This project has been a success story for Dayton-Phoenix, the Shook Construction team, and the Dayton area in general. It is a Showcase as to how Dayton supports its business community and an example to other companies looking for a home for their operations and expansions. Dayton has the design, construction, and workforce capabilities to make a project successful as well as provide long-term support.”

Grand Opening

Brecksville-Broadview Heights PK-5 Elementary School

On August 1, we celebrated the opening of Brecksville-Broadview Heights School District's new PreK-5 elementary school and fieldhouse. This 145,000 SF school consolidates the District's four existing elementary buildings and sits on approximately 55 acres. Unique features are incorporated throughout the building, including a stamped concrete courtyard with a functional pond and boardwalk, an interior corkscrew slide from the second floor to the media center, window alcove seats, and collaboration areas. Hexagonal shapes are also carried throughout the building in the windows and finishes to celebrate the school’s Bee mascot. The 33,000 SF fieldhouse attached to the school is jointly owned by the City Of Brecksville to house athletic tournaments and community events outside of school hours.

We are humbled to have the opportunity to work with the Greene County Sanitary Engineering Department (GCSED) to expand the capacity of their existing Northwest Regional Water Treatment Plant. On July 7, we broke ground on the upgrades that will include 4,000 cubic yards of concrete, 300 tons of rebar, 300 tons of process piping, over three miles of piping, and over 20 miles of wiring. It has been a pleasure collaborating with GCSED, Arcadis and AECOM on this project that will become one of the largest reverse osmosis membrane softening plants in Ohio when complete.

Dayton Metro Library Huber Heights Branch

Shook has built 10 new libraries and renovated two libraries as a part of the Dayton Metro Library’s $187 million “Libraries for a Smarter Future” facilities upgrade program. On June 14, we celebrated the groundbreaking of the program’s capstone project, the Huber Heights Branch. In lieu of shoveling dirt, attendees signed bricks to highlight the prominent feature of the new library and recognize the city's history as “America’s largest community of brick homes”. The new, 27,000-square-foot facility will be DML’s second-largest branch and feature a community room, multiple study areas, conference rooms, and program spaces for children and teens. It has been an honor to partner with DML and the Dayton Design Collaborative over the last seven years on this program to provide greater access to learning and create collaborative spaces for our community.

Journeying to Mozambique, East Africa

2022 Mission Trip

Our 2022 Mission Trip is complete! Eight Shook associates recently traveled to Mozambique, East Africa to construct teacher apartments for a remote school. This was our second company Mission Trip in an effort to make our Mission global. Our Mission Trips send a group of Shook employees to a part of the globe where people truly lack the infrastructure that we can help provide. Not only do they assist a struggling community, but they also instill a global perspective in our employees, continuing to embolden our core values of Passion, Balance, Courage, Opportunity, Responsibility, and Fun.

Welcome Stadium Renovations

Wednesday, June 8, marked a momentous occasion for the Dayton Public School District as they broke ground on the renovation of Welcome Stadium! Improvements to this historic landmark will enhance facilities for the District's student athletes and the University of Dayton's football team, attract new tournaments and community events, and offer opportunities to bring more people to the City of Dayton. Representatives and students from the District's schools, city officials, University of Dayton, Kettering Health, and community members came together to celebrate the future stadium and home to the District's new Hall of Fame. We are looking forward to bringing new life to the stadium to continue its legacy for years to come.
