CLEAVE Keyboard from Truly Ergonomic

The CLEAVE Keyboard from Truly Ergonomic features a unique non-traditional layout that is designed to reduce the burden on the fingers and hands while addressing additional ergonomic concerns often associated with intense typing.

This compact, 13.6" wide keyboard positions the two sets of keys slightly separated in the middle and oriented with a slight splay to assist in achieving a neutral wrist alignment. In addition, rather than the rows being staggered in relation to each other, the keys on the CLEAVE are arranged in a columnar layout to reduce lateral finger movement. Each column is also adjusted vertically to optimize key positioning by matching the length and reach of each finger, with the key caps of each row being individually sculpted to optimize finger contact. In order to reduce the strain on the weaker pinky fingers the most commonly used keys like Backspace, Delete, Shift, and Enter, are positioned centrally to be activated using the index fingers and thumbs. This also reduces awkward reaches that can reduce typing speed.

The CLEAVE utilizes a new style of mechanical switch that combines traditional mechanical action and feel with optical activation for more reliable and instant activation. The keyboard features a minimalist, almost flat design - rather than keys being recessed into a housing it features a base that houses the PCB with the mechanical switches rising above the machined aluminum housing. Adjustable and addressable backlighting is built into the PCB rather than being integrated into individual switches. The keyboard base features self-skinned polyurethane palm supports that reduce the potential for wrist extension while providing a cushioned rest for the palms.
