The British Virgin Islands joined the Red Ensign Group in 2014 and thus offers the option to register a private, commercial or merchant vessel under the UK red ensign flag. Similar to Guernsey, Jersey, the Cayman Islands and Malta, the Red Ensign Group flag grants protection by the British Royal Navy to those vessels registered under the British Virgin Islands – red ensign flag. The BVI is amongst a select group of Caribbean destinations that enjoy the benefits of being part of the United Kingdom's Red Ensign Group of Registries and are now recognised worldwide as having an international Category 1 ship registry operating to the highest standards of a British Port of Registry.
You can register under the BVI red ensign flag even if you are not a citizen there and even if you do not own a company there. Register as either a private owner or have the boat owned by a company. This can be an existing company based in the UK or EU or a OECS or we can setup a new company for you to hold the ownership of the vessel.
