Get to know #GreaterROC by getting to know Monique Hill (@thoughtsofmonique)!

My name is Monique Hill. I am a therapeutic recreational therapist by profession, and last fall I made my acting debut in a movie. I am originally from Poughkeepsie, New York, but grew up in Greater ROC.

There are many wonderful restaurants and entertainment venues in the Greater Rochester area and this time of the year is great to go out and enjoy! One fave is @trata_roc, which was the location of my first date with my fiancé. I also enjoy the food selection at @bodegahhhh, an adorable take-out eatery in Downtown’s Park Avenue neighborhood—it’s a fabulous place to stop and grab dinner after the workday! For entertainment, I love @rocrmsc and the @eastmanmuseum. I frequent @thelittletheatre, a treasure in the Rochester community for generations. Powder Mills Park, located in Pittsford, is one of my favorite places for a picnic—plus I love visiting the fish hatchery there.

Living in Greater ROC also means being near some of the best wineries in all of New York State! I have enjoyed wonderful tastings and warm hospitality at wineries such as @drfrankwine, @azurehillwinery and @huntcountryvineyards, among others. Then there’s the amazing events like Tapas at the Vineyards at @deerrunwinery, or Sunday Suppers at @anthonyroadwine, where they pair their selections with food prepared by Chef Samantha Buyskes (@foodforlife2), an amazing chef with creative ideas who always sources food locally!

When planning an extended stay in Wine Country I love going to @genevaonthelakeresort. The lodging and accommodations are spectacular! I often drive a few miles to get ice cream from @spotted_duck_flx. And don’t forget to say hello to their resident peacock, Alejandro!

Greater ROC is so unique! There’s a natural beauty and sereneness in this region that influences the people who live here, and inspires the businesses operated. It is truly a remarkable place to live.

Now in its 17th year, the event supports Golisano Children’s Hospital, and has raised over $2 million dollars in its tenure to fund many needs at our local children’s hospital.
