COMPREHENSIVE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

AFFORDABLE HOUSING

FAC has built or renovated over 1,000 units of affordable housing for low- and moderate-income residents since 1978, and we currently have nearly 310 units in development - more than at any single point in the organization’s history.

ORGANIZING AND ADVOCACY

FAC organizes tenants, low wage workers, new-immigrants, and other community residents to engage in collective action that strategically targets critical problems such as displacement, unhealthy housing conditions, substandard wages and lack of economic opportunity. We advocate for hundreds of tenants, workers, and immigrants every year.

ADULT EDUCATION

FAC’s Adult Education Unit provides 16 classes annually to over 500 adults from over 24 countries of origin. These students seek to advance their language acquisition, improve their employment prospects, support their children’s education, as well as improve their reading, writing, and math skills.

COMMUNITY SERVICES

Community Services at FAC helps fight poverty and support mobility from poverty in New York City by connecting more than a thousand low- and moderate-income New Yorkers with benefits and supports each year.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

FAC is committed to helping community residents secure stable, living-wage employment and career development opportunities. We have assisted thousands of people with training, education and job referrals. Our programs are offered at no charge and aim to give all participants the tools for economic self-sufficiency.

AFFORDABLE SOLAR

FAC focuses on sustainability and workforce development through solar installation and training NYCHA residents to install a WiFi Mesh network around the Gowanus Canal.

TENANT ADVOCACY, FORECLOSURE PREVENTION & HOMEBUYER COUNSELING

Neighbors Helping Neighbors (NHN) offers a variety of advocacy counseling services including: support to help homeowners avoid foreclosure; tenant counseling, advocacy, and organizing; and first time homebuyers seminars.

We advance economic, social, and racial justice

through integrated, community-centered affordable housing, grassroots organizing and policy advocacy, and transformative education, training, and services that build the power to shape our community’s future.

FAC works to transform the lives of over 5,500 low- and moderate-income New Yorkers annually so that we can all live and work with dignity and respect while making our community more equitable, sustainable, inclusive, and just.
