ALICE in Focus: People with Disabilities

Today, we celebrate the 32nd anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disability Act (1990) with the official launch of ALICE in Focus: People with Disabilities! Together, we can make a difference for ALICE people with disabilities.

Longstanding discriminatory policies and practices that impact access to education, employment, health care, housing and other resources create barriers to financial stability for people with disabilities. This fact hits home for the more than 40 million people in the U.S. who have a cognitive, hearing, vision, or ambulatory disability, or one that makes self-care or independent living difficult.

United For ALICE data shows that 34% of Americans with disabilities are struggling in households that earned above the Federal Poverty Level but less than what it costs to afford the basics. These households fall into a larger group called ALICE: Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed.

United Way is United for ALICE! Join us in understanding financial hardship among people with disabilities so we can work to overcome those challenges.
