The Backer North American businesses are very important subset of companies in the Backer Element division of our parent company NIBE. For more than 100 years Backer EHP or Backer-Springfield has been and will continue to be one of the top industry leaders with the innovation and production of electrical heating elements for the worldwide markets of Home Appliance sales, HVAC Comfort heating sales, Foodservice equipment sales, Refrigeration and Defrost sales, Scientific and Medical sales, Transportation sales, and Manufacturing and Processing sales.

Our proud history begins in 1915 when E. L. Wiegand received a U.S. patent for his flat iron heating element. In 1917 Weigand opened the E.L. Wiegand Electric Company marketing under the Chromalox name, this company was aquired by Emerson Electric Company in 1968. Emerson split the company into two divisions and we became Emerson Heating Products under the Emerson Appliance Solutions & Emerson Climate Tech Solutions groups, Acquired by the Swedish company NIBE in 2011 we became Backer EHP, and with the acquisition of Springfield Wire in 2012 we began marketing under the name Backer Springfield. Through all of the name changes one thing has not changed, our commitment to quality and providing the best value in electric heat for our customers. We have remained the same company with our excellent resources, expertise, and engineering abilities and have enjoyed the continuos improvement of our company both organically and through our acquisitions.

All our in-house engineers at Backer Springfield strive to form a partnership with our customers to solve all heating challenges to provide a total customer solution and not merely supplying a heating element.
