Jung through lectures, seminars, workshops, study groups, social events and this website. It has remained true to its original two part goal of offering to the public the theory, concepts and practical application of Analytical Psychology while providing the local area Jungian analysts a forum to present their ideas, their work, and themselves. The Jung Association of Western Mass can anticipate many more years of exciting and meaningful community service to the local Western Mass area in the advancement of Analytical Psychology. These presentations are made possible with the generous support of Smith College and its Office of College Relations. The JUNG ASSOCIATION of WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS Invites you to attend the 2020-2021 LECTURE SERIESAt this time of unprecedented challenge, our program aims to sustain the inner light of consciousness by directly addressing deeper aspects of our current situation: racism, politics, integration of trauma, psychedelics, apocalypse, gender, and present astrology. In order to keep everyone as safe as possible, ALL OUR PROGRAMS THIS YEAR WILL BE HELD VIA ZOOM on the first Friday of each month. The pandemic has revealed profound issues that have been lurking under the surface of our collective lives for generations. These issues the virus itself, climate catastrophe which has contributed to it, and systemic racism and violence have exploded in our country. These crises give us the opportunity to face our shadows, heal and transform for the better. This first gathering of our Jung Association will focus on truth-telling together to help us face each of these issues and become conscious of, integrate and transform the shadow dimensions being revealed. We will examine both personal and collective dimensions of shadow. We will hear brief presentations from Board members Erica Lorentz, Jungian Analyst, Penny Tarasuk, Jungian Analyst, and Ed Tick, archetypal psychotherapist, then explore in small group discussions facilitated by members of the board, and finally, rejoin the full group for sharing and integrating our collective wisdom. Please join us for this important beginning to our lecture series.* * *Friday, October 2, 2020 7:00-9:00pmIntegrationWe have collectively experienced tremendum: a darkened numinosian of a pandemic, with some 200,000 fellow Americans dead, the murder of an African-American man by a policeman before the eyes of the world, grief and demands for justice, and we have witnessed the violent attack on peaceful protestors near by the ‘White House’.Personal and collective integration of overwhelming trauma requires conscious effort. We need to support one another. Collective grieving is healing personally to the world soul. How do we integrate this eruptive trauma? Let us begin. Come with paper ‘crayons’ and a listening heart.Penelope Tarasuk, PhD is a Jungian Analyst (IAAP)1988 Boston, author and artist who practices in South Deerfield. She is certified in Grof Holotropic Breathwork and is a member of the Boston Psychedelic Research Group.* * *Friday, November 6, 2020, 7:00-9:00pmArchetype of the ApocalypseApocalypse occurs when the collective shadow, the dark underlying forces of nature and humanity, are unleashed, possess the masses and threaten massive destruction. Apocalypse has occurred throughout history. It is found in world sacred literature and key Jungian and archetypal writings. We are in apocalypse today. We will explore the archetypal dimensions of apocalypse, its meaning to individuals, history and the threats we face today, and offer wisdom for transforming apocalyptic trauma and healing its breakdown.Ed Tick, PhD is an archetypal psychotherapist, writer and international journey guide. Ed is author of six books and is honored for his work in both mythological and trauma fields. He maintains a private practice as well as leading transformational pilgrimages overseas.* * *December 4, 2020, 7:00-9:00pmCulture, Diversity and Depth Psychology in an Age of Overwhelming ChangeIn this presentation I will talk about my experience as a Jungian analyst working with a diverse multicultural clientele within a community mental health setting.  Cross cultural intervention includes not only a deep understanding of the rich ethnic and racial diversity of patients, but also the influential culture of mental health setting, and the broader universal culture of human suffering.Lucia Maneri, LMHC, is a Jungian Analyst (IAAP), C.G. Jung Institute-Boston. She has extensive experience as a clinical psychologist in Venezuela and has worked for the past 24 years in community mental health clinics in MA, bringing analytical work into managed care. She has a private practice in Worcester. Her interests include meditation, Buddhism, spirituality and connection to nature.* * *Friday January 8, 2020, 7:00-9:00pm The Heroine’s Journey – Beyond PatriarchyJoseph Campbell brought the hero’s journey into mainstream culture. But what about the heroine’s journey in all of us? What about the whole history of nonviolent resistance all over the world that fought for positive transformation against a violent patriarchy? In this program, we will take a look at the qualities of the heroine’s journey of initiation, psychological, and spiritual growth through fairytale, myth, history, story, and film. It’s a growing movement and the only way to create real change.Erica Lorentz, MEd, LPC, is a Jungian Analyst (IAAP) with a private practice in Amherst, MA and is the President of the Jung Association of Western MA. She is a training analyst of the Jung Institute of Boston and has lectured and facilitated workshops throughout the US and Canada. Go to the Jung Platform website to view her webinar on “The Power of the Feminine Erotic Soul”, and interview for the Individuation Summit.* * *February 5, 2020, 7:00-9:00pm Jung, Alchemy and Altered StatesCarl Jung had a deep interest in the study of alchemy and suggested the processes described by the alchemists were not to be understood only intellectually but experientially, recognizing alchemy as a map and method for the transformation of consciousness. Psychedelics, once again being embraced as the subject of government research, have been shown to expand perception and offer a temporary suspension of emotional inhibitors and fixed beliefs such that exploring the symbols and suggestions of the alchemists becomes “real” and potentially transformative. This talk will focus on the ritual and ceremonial use of psychedelics and consider some of the deeper implications of this work for personal and planetary healing. Specific terms and ideas from alchemy and Jung will be explored as useful in the preparation for and integration of psychedelic journeys.Alan Levin is a psychotherapist and long-time spiritual practitioner and teacher. He worked for many years with Ralph Metzner, a pioneer in psychedelic research. In California, Alan founded Holos Institute, a center for psychotherapy and a training program for ecopsychology. He now has a practice in New York’s Lower Hudson Valley.  He is the author of Crossing the Boundary: Stories of Jewish Leaders of Other Spiritual Paths.  * * *March 5, 2020, 7:00-9:00pm Moby-Dick: An American MythAccording to Carl Jung, Moby-Dick is the greatest American novel. It is a book that resounds with powerful archetypal and mythic depths. It reveals crucial insights into the collective psyche of America and, indeed, the world. It s portrait of the monomaniac Ahab s hunt for the White Whale has powerfully relevant things to say to us today about our relationship with nature, with Transcendence, and with each other.

Jason E. Smith is a Jungian Analyst (IAAP) in private practice in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts. He is a past president of the C.G. Jung Institute-Boston and currently serves as a training analyst and core faculty member in its analytic training program.* * *April 2, 2020, 7:00-9:00pm A New Face of the Divine (in Us)In traditional astrology, the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn is referred to as the King Maker. After 200 years of conjunctions in earth signs, their conjunction in December of 2020 in the air sign, Aquarius, marks a new era. Using Jung’s notion of an archetypal spectrum, we will discern symbolic correspondences between astronomy, astrology and mythology to understand the psychological dimension of these archetypal principles.Cynthia Poorbaugh, MFA, LP, is a Jungian Analyst (IAAP) in private practice in New York City and Cold Spring, NY. She is a faculty member for the JPA, NY, teaches for the IEA, NY, PAJA, and the C.G. Jung Foundation, NY, where she serves on the Board of Trustees.* * *May 7, 2020, 7:00-9:00pm Alice in Genderland: Transgender “Through the Looking Glass”Contemporary psychological gender theory explores the interplay of biological sex, culture, brain development, and attachment experiences in the formation of gender identities. Reading outside of his Anima/Animus theory, Jung of the symbolic, the mythic, and the subtle body has much to offer to emergent gender theory. Jung invites us to the medial place of the soul, bridging the realm of the physical body and the realm of the spirit. It is in this place that we can explore gender as fluidly shifting realities of body and mind.Susan McKenzie, MS, is a Jungian Analyst (IAAP) in private practice in White River Junction, Vermont. She is a faculty member of the Boston Jung Institute and has lectured and published on post-Jungian theory of gender and sexuality.
