Malays, Dyaks, Iranun, Banguingui, Moros, and not least Chinese Pirates aboard single vessels and in entire fleets, constantly warred back and forth as they had for centuries with the Dyaksof Borneo their frequent prey--as well as European and Asian Merchantmen trading in the riches of the Indies.But Brooke took up the challenge, and with coalitions of Native Borneans he led them in expeditions to break strongholdafter stronghold. And soon, Royal Navy warships found a new theater for fighting slavery as they joined Brooke'scrusade.
