Clinical and laboratory characteristics of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis induced by Leishmania infantum infectionQi Shi and colleagues find that parasite culturing and qPCR detection of bone marrow samples facilitate the diagnosis of visceral leishmaniasis associated hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, but prompt treatment with anti-Leishmania and immunosuppressive chemotherapy can reduce mortality.

Yellow fever vaccine protects mice against Zika virus infectionAna C. Vicente Santos and colleagues demonstrate that the yellow fever vaccine elicits an immune response that protects against cerebral infection by zika virus. Their findings suggest the possibility of using an available and inexpensive vaccine for large-scale immunization in the event of a ZIKV outbreak.
