 Two-Time Main Event Racing Series winner and Barberton Speedway co-owner Mike Mazzagatti is planning to attend the “Ball” in Pensacola to cap off his 2015 season. The Snowball, that is.

Mazzagatti Motorsports and driver Mike Mazzagatti will be attempting to make the 48th annual Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL. The famous late model showdown attracts top racers from around the country for a 300 lap showdown every December since 1968. Previous winners include past, present, and future NASCAR stars. Kyle Busch, Darrell Waltrip, Erik Jones, Chase Elliott, and more have hoisted the trademark trophy, topped with a signature snowball.

For the 2015 edition scheduled for December 6th, over 60 cars have already registered. Drivers include Ty Majeski, Ross Kenseth, John Hunter Nemechek, Bubba Pollard, and Grant Enfinger. Qualifying on December 4th will lock in the top 30 drivers on time. Drivers that don’t qualify on time will have to race their way in on December 5th. Four drivers will advance from a 50 lap “Last Chance” race to complete the field.

Mike Mazzagatti earned two wins in the Main Event Racing Series this year, finishing third in points. His first came at Midvale Speedway near New Philadelphia, OH during the Downtown Ford 100. Mazzagatti dominated the show, leading 63 laps on his way to the checkers. He also powered his #87 FLF Chassis to victory lane at the recently re-opened Spitzer Motor Speedway of Mansfield. Mike completed the season with seven top-five finishes, and was 90 points behind 2015 Main Event Racing Series Champion Jeff Ganus.

The team is no stranger to major events. In 2011 and 2012, Mazzagatti competed in the World Series of Racing at New Smyrna Speedway in Florida. The annual event features multiple races over the course of a week, crowning a champion based on total points. Mike has earned two top-tens in the Pro Late Model division.

While Mazzagatti has found success on the track, he has also continued to support the Northeast Ohio racing scene. Mike, with his Brother Pat, purchased Barberton Speedway this summer and returned racing to the paperclip-shaped asphalt track. Barberton Speedway re-opened in September with over 100 cars in the pits and stands filled to capacity.

What a weekend ahead for the Northeast Ohio racing scene.  Not only does Ohio Sprint Speedweek kick off at Attica Raceway Park, but the ARCA Gold Cup races with The Main Event Racing Series for the first time at Sandusky Speedway.

If that wasnt enough, Mansfield Speedway re-opens for the first time in many years with a Sunday show.  The MSA Supermodifieds highlight a three division Grand Reopening, which is the first of six scheduled shows.

For dirt fans, along with Sprint Speedweek, the first ever Ohio Dirt Late Model Speedweek finished up at Atomic on Saturday.  Theres a little bit of everything for everybody, so check out the schedule below and plan your weekend accordingly!

This weekend is dedicated to those we lost, those that fought valiantly to protect our Flag and our freedoms.  Let us never forget.Busy weekend of Racing ahead, with some shows shifting to Sunday.  With the big Mansfield re-opening cancelled a while ago, the big show of the weekend happens at Columbus Motor Speedway, which hosts the JEGS / CRA All Stars Tour Saturday.  On dirt, Fremont Speedway hosts the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions both Saturday and Sunday.Weather is expected to be gorgeous all weekend, with little to no chance of significant rain.  Make sure to get out there and support your local short tracks!Racing Calendar – Track Map

Highlight of the racing weekend is the ARCA Racing Series making its annual visit to Toledo Speedway.  The ARCA Truck Series races Saturday, then the Menards 200 runs Sunday.  Discount tickets are available at participating Menards stores.

I will be at Lake County Speedway for their weekly racing action, but everybody should get out to their local track and enjoy the beautiful weather that appears to have returned to Northeast Ohio.

Some things to noteSandusky has re-scheduled both The Main Event Racing Series and MSA Supermodified races that were supposed to run last week.  The Main Event race has been moved to July 11th, while the Supermodifieds have moved to August 15th.

The Mansfield Grand Re-Opening scheduled for May 23rd has been postponed.  The Main Event Racing Series and MSA Supermodifieds will both announce new dates for Mansfield early next week.

I will also be adding Summit Motorsports Park, Thompson Raceway Park, and Championship Kart Racing Association dates to the calendar this weekend.
