$125,000leftThe 2020 Goal for the "Campaign for Cures" is to Support Research for Developing a Vaccine for COVID-19​In 2019, the Institute launched the "Campaign for Cures" to develop ethical human cell lines that can be used in the bio-manufacturing of vaccines, protein therapeutics, gene therapy and cell therapy. The Institute developed methods to immortalize two human adult stem cells. For 2020, the "Campaign for Cures" will apply this technology to develop a vaccine for Coronavirus. JP2MRI needs to raise $325,000this year as part of this ongoing initiative. The Institute is uniquely positioned to accomplish this task. The recent Coronavirus infection has no available treatment or vaccine. While there are experimental treatments, there is no guarantee that these treatments will achieve success. A key requirement for producing an effective and definitive short-term and long-term vaccine is to create an attenuated live vaccine. A major challenge of producing a potent vaccine requires that the cell line provide the most native glycosylation system in which sugar molecules are added to proteins produced by cells. Unfortunately, the current cell lines used in bio-manufacturing lack a native human glycosylation system. Moreover, current aborted fetal cells created decades ago, also lack a native human glycosylation system. The Institute has developed novel methods to produce immortalized human cell lines for vaccine development. We believe that our cell lines present the advantage of providing the most native glycosylation system for producing a vaccine. Thus, this technology could potentially not just be ethical but also offer scientific advantages.The Institute has the technical resources and expertise to offer a solution, but it needs financial support from individuals and organizations.
